Gilbert guides Raiders past Rams in B North quarterfinal

...he Raiders (8-5) advance to face top-seeded and unbeaten Gardiner in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday at Hoch Field.

"All we've been preaching this past week (is) one more game, one more play," said Gilbert, a senior attack. "We have to keep it going. They were getting a little chippy. We took advantage of that."

Gilbert had three goals, while Darryn Bailey, Marcus Bailey and Matt Eaton added two apiece for Oak Hill. Chad Bickford led Cony (8-5) with four goals and Zach Whitney had two.

Cony rallied from a 4-0 deficit to lead after Bickford's fourth goal made it 7-6 with 9:16 remaining.

Oak Hill boys lacrosse strikes late to down Cony

Steven Gilbert scores 2 man-up goals in final minutes to lead Raiders to Class B North semifinals.

...Senior Steven Gilbert scored a pair of man-up goals 51 seconds apart, snapping the deadlock and lifting No. 5 Oak Hill to a 9-7 win over No. 4 Cony at Alumni Field. The Raiders (8-5) will meet top-seeded and unbeaten Gardiner in the regional semifinals at 4 p.m., Friday.

Wild momentum swings marked the contest, with the game tied on three different occasions in the second half. Oak Hill finally seemed to have wrestled control of the contest away from the Rams when Darryn Bailey struck with 8:43 remaining to knot the score at 7-7.

Just over five minutes later, Cony junior Nick Robinson was flagged for an illegal body check along the sidelines at midfield when he leveled Oak Hill freshman Liam Rodrigue, setting up the decisive two-minute man advantage for the Raiders.

York boys lacrosse secures first-ever home playoff win

...We just came out firing. We talked about what we needed to fix and finally we clamped down and finished it out,” DesMarais said. “I came out angry and I think everybody else did, too.”

DesMarais’ four goals complemented junior Tommy McCarthy’s six-goal effort to pace York (9-4), while Will Masterson added three goals.

“I think we realized that if we don’t finish this off that it’d be our last game this year and it was especially important for our seniors; they really carried us this year,” McCarthy said. “We just wanted it for them to get our first playoff win in a long time.”

Hawks hold on for playoff upset of higher-ranked Windjammers
Griebel tallies goal, assist, Nickerson, Davis goals to key host Camden Hills

...The Windjammers took a 2-0 lead in the early going when Davis and Will Nickerson logged goals, but Boucher and Vickerson willed the Hawks back into the match with a pair of second-half scores while being heavily covered by the Camden Hills defense.

The Hawks seemed to build more confidence as the game moved into the third quarter, when Nace’s goal at the 4:06-mark — and another by Stockford with 36.5 left in the stanza — gave the visitors a 4-2 edge.

Ward said, much like in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B title game (a 12-5 loss to Gardiner on June 3), his squad committed too many penalties, with five of their six infractions coming in the second half.

“We were winded,” the coach said. “Numbers-wise their guys were trying all game long, but they just got tired.”
