‘Bridge Battle’ take two: Dragons reign supreme

... “I think we just needed to settle down,” Brunswick coach Don Glover said. “We were playing undisciplined. Their keeper (Parkey Lacey) played incredible, played really well and our shot quality wasn’t that great. We just weren’t making quality shots and also, we were rushing our offense a fair amount tonight. We like to transition, but we didn’t cherish the ball as much as we should have.”

Lacey (13 saves) made several key blocks for Mt. Ararat (3-4) in the first half, but in the last few minutes, Brunswick (5-0) mixed it up. Up 6-3 with possession, midfielder Henry Doherty gathered the ball from distance during a pass-around. Without hesitation, he fired it toward the cage and rippled the net to make it 7-3. Just a minute later, attacker Aiden Glover completed his hat trick before Andrew Eno got open right in front of Lacey at 1:43 and buried it.

Just like that, the Dragons were in total control.

Undefeated Brunswick burns Lewiston

... Ben Palizay opened the scoring for the Dragons (7-0), finding the back of the net less than four minutes in. He scored twice during a 4-0 first quarter for Brunswick, then opened the scoring in the second quarter for a quick hat trick.

"We scripted and knew that we needed to get a lot of productivity out of our midfielders," Brunswick coach Don Glover said. "Our D-middies were a key element to the game, too.

"We knew this would be a ground ball battle. It always is. So the possession aspect of it, and the ground ball piece of it, those defensive middies were able to get out there and get the work done to get the fresh legs on, like a Ben, to downhill dodge."

Oxford Hills' Tommy Bancroft tries to muscle his way through several Brunswick players during Monday afternoon's game at Gouin Complex. The Dragons knocked the ball out of Bancroft's basket and went on to dominate the Vikings, 21-0, to keep their perfect season in tact and the Vikings winless on the season.
