Maranacook/Winthrop boys lacrosse weathers Winslow
Hawks advance to face either Camden Hills or Mt. Blue in Class B North semifinals.

... Thanks to a strong surge beginning in the second quarter, though, it was the Hawks who stormed their way into the Class B North semifinals with a 13-5 win over the Black Raiders. Maranacook/Winthrop will next face No. 1 Camden Hills (12-0) or No. 9 Mt. Blue (6-7) on Saturday. Those teams meet Wednesday.

“We actually finally got to see our whole team come together. Everybody was scoring, everybody was playing together,” Maranacook/Winthrop’s Ty Smith said. “It was something we were looking for the entire season — especially in the second half.”

Yarmouth boys open playoffs with decisive win over NYA

YARMOUTH—Yarmouth’s boys’ lacrosse team knows how to take it to the next level when the calendar flips to June and Wednesday evening, in a Class B North quarterfinal, undermanned North Yarmouth Academy had no answers for the Clippers’ eruption.

The ancient rivals squared off again in the playoffs, but the visiting Panthers, down several key players, could only bear witness to Yarmouth’s extensive offensive capabilities for 48 minutes.

The third-seeded Clippers took control in the first quarter, as senior Matthew Beatty scored a goal and assisted on two others as the hosts went up, 4-0.

Gardiner boys lacrosse upsets Cony in Class B North quarterfinals
Balanced attack helps Tigers past previously unbeaten Rams.

AUGUSTA — There was plenty at stake Wednesday night when the Cony boys lacrosse team hosted rival Gardiner. Second-seeded Cony put its unbeaten record on the line, but more importantly a berth in the Class B North semifinals awaited the winner.

Trailing by four goals at one point, 10th-seeded Gardiner rallied in the second half and took the lead late in the fourth quarter en route to a 12-11 victory that took the crowd of about 400 on an entertaining roller-coaster ride.

Gardiner (7-7) will face No. 3 Yarmouth in a game Saturday while Cony finishes at 12-1.

Rams trample York boys in Class B South quarterfinal rout

KENNEBUNK, Maine — This was not how the York High School boys lacrosse team wanted to end the season.

The sixth-seeded Wildcats suffered a lopsided 21-5 loss at third-seeded Kennebunk on Wednesday evening in a Class B South quarterfinal. The Rams were unstoppable, scoring early and often, and they'll move on to play at No. 2 Falmouth on Saturday.

Kennebunk's Pat Gassman gave the Rams a 1-0 lead but York's Charlie Leroux answered less than a minute later to tie the game at 1-1. From that point on it was all Kennebunk.
