RECAP: RED-HOT RAPTORS STIFLE THE CELTICS

The Toronto Raptors visit the Boston Celtics winning seven out of their last eight games. The Celtics, without star point guard Isaiah Thomas for the second consecutive game due to a groin injury, are seeking major contributions from Al Horford and Avery Bradley. Marcus Smart slides in at the starting point guard spot opposite All-Star Kyle Lowry who is one of the league’s top defenders at the position.

THE GAME FLOW

It was clear out the gate who Brad Stevens wanted the ball to run through without his star point guard. Horford and Bradley combined to score the team’s first eight points, including two threes from Big Al. Not to mention the rest of the team went to go 4-5 from deep that quarter. But the real story of the first quarter was the bench play.

Olynyk and his groovy hair compiled one hell of a stat line, finishing the half with five points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a very controversial block off the glass. The Canadian even had a, dare I say, Harden-esque euro-step and finished the play with a powerful and-one as a part of Boston’s 13-0 run in the quarter. Brown had his time to shine going 3-4 from the field. The rookie showed great promise knocking down a confident-looking open three and was even able to wow the crowd with a sick crossover before nailing a mid-range jumper. He was an energizer-bunny going up and down the court setting up the transition game for the C’s and finished the half with a +8 +/-. Boston leads after the first quarter, 28-25.

5 trade targets to fix the Celtics’ rebounding problem

The NBA shopping season is approaching this December and the Boston Celtics are one of the teams likely to be looking for a few new toys to add their roster. An uneven start to the year has magnified a glaring area of need on the roster: rebounding. The Celtics rank among the five worst rebounding teams in the NBA a quarter of the way through the season, despite the fact that some of the team’s wings (Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder) are putting up career numbers while trying to chip in.

With no clear internal solutions to address the problem, Danny Ainge will likely have to look outside of the organization for alternatives. Trade chatter is expected to pick up once Dec. 15 hits and more than 100 players who signed contracts in the offseason become eligible for inclusion in trades. In preparation for next week, here are a look at five potential trade targets that could help the Celtics address their rebounding woes.

Westbrook leads Thunder past Celtics

OKLAHOMA CITY — Russell Westbrook's triple-double streak ended at seven games, but he finished the night with two things that meant more to him — a win and his long-lost shooting stroke.

Westbrook scored 23 of his 37 points in the second half to help the Oklahoma City Thunder defeat the Boston Celtics 99-96 on Sunday. He had 12 rebounds but only six assists, ending the NBA's longest triple-double run since Michael Jordan had seven straight in 1989.

Westbrook hadn't been satisfied. He shot just under 38 percent during the streak, and said after Friday's loss to Houston that it bothered him. Against the Celtics, he made 14 of 26 shots and finally found his rhythm.

Celtics are still looking to make the big trade, and time's running out

The Celtics are still waiting on the big one.

Boston signed Al Horford this summer, but as good as the All-Star center is, you don't sign him with an eye on winning a championship. It gets you closer, but it doesn't make you a true title contender. With so many assets -- three good-to-great guards in Marcus Smart, Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley, plus the Nets' unprotected first-rounder -- Boston still had the assets to make a deal for a star player.

Problem is, none are available.

Leonard scores 26, leads Spurs to 108-101 win over Celtics

SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Spurs turned to their most tenured veteran to fight off the youthful energy of the Boston Celtics.

Tony Parker had 16 points, including 10 in the final period, and the Spurs played their second consecutive solid home game in beating the Celtics 108-101 on Wednesday night.

"Tony made it a point that he wanted to finish the game out," Boston guard Avery Bradley said. "You could tell. You could see it in his eyes, you could see it in his play. Every time he got the ball he was aggressive. He was either making a play for himself or making a play for his teammates."

5 ways the Celtics could shake things up

he Celtics have fallen short of lofty expectations to start the 2016-17 regular season, as they battle to stay in the playoff picture in a competitive Eastern Conference. With frustration starting to bubble up internally, the pressure is starting to mount on Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge to make some changes.

“Our team feels like we’ve given a few games away this year, and my feeling is we won a few games that we sort of stole and were fortunate to win,” Ainge told WBZ’s Adam Kaufman. “Winning and losing in the NBA right now, unless you’re one of those top elite teams, it’s hard. There is a lot of parity in the NBA and the difference between winning 40 and 50 games is very fragile.”

Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley Pace Boston In Win Vs. Heat

The Boston Celtics have been a good road team this season, and that success continued Sunday night in Miami.

The C’s beat the Heat 105-95 at American Airlines Arena for their second consecutive win, improving their record away from TD Garden to 9-7 and overall mark to 15-12. Boston used a great first quarter and excellent play from its starters to secure the victory.

Another poor third quarter made for an interesting finish, but the C’s held on by making some clutch shots in the fourth quarter.

Celtics: 'Rock-paper-scissors' is an important part of the game`

Last night, Boston Celtics wings Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder used rock-paper-scissors to decide who should shoot a technical free throw in the closing minutes of a victory over the Miami Heat. It was pretty funny (Crowder won, throwing paper to Bradley's rock, before missing the free throw), and you should go check it out here.

On Monday, Brad Stevens shed some further light on the matter, saying that the game actually decides quite a bit more.

"When we come into the huddle and decide who we're drawing a play up for, we do rock-paper-scissors first," Stevens said, per Celtics.com's Marc D'Amico. "And obviously, you have to have multiple rock-paper-scissors games going on to get to the final. And we bracket that out and by the time about one minute is left on the clock, I come in and ask who won, and we draw up the play. And that's who it's for."

Thomas scores career-high 44 points to help Celtics bag big road win over Grizzlies

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In search of a signature victory this season, the Celtics decided to write their name all over last night’s game against the Grizzlies.

In ink. In capital letters.

Isaiah Thomas went for a career-high 44 points (his previous best was 38), and the Celts needed all of them to take down Memphis in overtime, 112-109. It was the first Shamrock road win against a plus-.500 team since Oct. 29 in Charlotte.
