Water found its level Friday night, and the Celtics drowned the Chicago Bulls right out of the NBA Playoffs.

IT fought tooth and nail (as you can see) to help the Celtics overcome a large deficit and lead them to a Game 1 win:

Isaiah Thomas’ 53 carry Celtics to overtime win

On what would have been his late sister Chyna’s 23rd birthday, Isaiah Thomas honored the date as only he can.

“She would have been 23 today, so the least I can do is go out there and play for her,” he said.

The guard scored 53 points, the second-highest total in franchise playoff history, in a 129-119 overtime win against the Washington Wizards last night in Game   2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, giving the Celtics a 2-0 series lead. John Havlicek holds the playoff record with 54 points against Atlanta in April 1973.

The C's overcame large deficits in Games 1 & 2, but Washington's 1Q run Thurs. night was too much for BOS to handle.

Celtics unravel

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Boston Celtics know how violently a playoff series can shift, but now need to take hold of this one again.

Just two weeks ago, they were in trouble against the Chicago Bulls before changing their starting lineup, finding their rhythm, and running off four consecutive wins to advance to the second round. Rajon Rondo broke his thumb, Gerald Green unlocked a new level for the Boston offense and that first-round series flipped overnight.

It's not panic time yet for the Celtics now in the second round, but back-to-back blowout losses to the Washington Wizards offered more proof of postseason volatility. A playoff series can bend, quiver and swerve, often times with little warning. After controlling the first 17 minutes of Sunday night's Game 4, the Celtics tumbled down Turnover Mountain, vomited all over themselves and looked up to find John Wall, Otto Porter and Bradley Beal flashing the other way for easy buckets.

Two hip pointers? No problem. Avery Bradley took a page out of Shakira's book Wednesday night, as he and the Celtics danced to a Game 5 win: http://on.nba.com/2q4MOid

With their backs against the wall Friday night, the Wizards turned to John Wall. He came through in the clutch to save their season and force a Game 7 with the C's. Here's how the final seconds went down: http://on.nba.com/2pIa8Py

Boston battled relentlessly for home-court advantage, and Monday night's Game 7 atmosphere proved why it was worth the fight. As Brad Stevens explains after moving past the Wizards into the ECF, "There’s no place like [TD Garden] in the Playoffs." Here's why: http://on.nba.com/2rb55ez

Celtics win 2017 NBA Lottery

The Boston Celtics won the 2017 NBA Draft lottery on Thursday, earning the No. 1 overall pick for the first time in franchise history and receiving the opportunity to select whomever they want in a loaded 2017 draft class.

The consensus No. 1 overall pick according to most draft analysts, including both ESPN's Chad Ford and Draft Express, is Washington guard Markelle Fultz. Standing at 6-foot-5 with long arms and big hands, Fultz looks the part. Here are five essential things Celtics fans should know about the potential top overall pick.

1. Fultz was a late riser as a high-school star.

Playing for basketball powerhouse DeMatha, Fultz didn't join the varsity team until his junior year and spent most of that season unranked by the various scouting sites around the country. He exploded onto the scene that summer, although one MassLive writer (me) would like to note that he (I) started extolling Fultz's virtues after an impressive Hoophall Classic performance. As a senior, Fultz started climbing the recruit rankings after committing to Washington. Before long, he became a no-questions-asked lottery pick.
