Celtics prep offer for Crowder, add to roster

The Celtics, who have made the re-signing of Jae Crowder a priority once free agency starts on July 1, have completed the paperwork for a $1.1 million qualifying offer to the small forward. The deadline is Sunday.

Crowder, in turn, also desires a return, though based on his improvement with the Celtics over the second half of last season, it will be interesting to see how much his market begins to develop later this week.

“The feeling of me coming back to Boston is mutual, from what I can tell,” Crowder told the Herald two weeks ago. “I just hope we can get something done. But I do get a good feeling from the team.” ...

Onetime reluctant Celtic sees great opportunity in its growth

Tom “Satch” Sanders has always had a strong grip on perspective, and Thursday night at the Celtics’ draft party, he was perhaps the most well-equipped person in the Seaport Hotel ballroom to offer it.

Down in Brooklyn, the NBA had gathered a number of expected first-round draftees, their families and agents, along with hundreds of media types and thousands of fans into Barclays Center for its annual talent dispersal show.

A number of teams besides the Celtics were holding similar soirees in their cities to mark the event.

Free agent forward Al-Farouq Aminu will visit Celtics

BOSTON – The Boston Celtics are in the market for some help at small forward and may turn to former lottery pick Al-Farouq Aminu.

A league source tells CSNNE.com that the 6-foot-9 forward, drafted with the 8th overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2010, has Boston among the handful of teams he plans to visit during the free agency period.

Aminu is far from a household name, but that could easily change if he can pick up where he left off this past season with the Dallas Mavericks.

Celtics on Monroe's short list of potential teams

BOSTON – Greg Monroe has a short list of teams he’s seriously thinking about playing for next season.

And yes, the Boston Celtics have made the cut.

The 7-foot big man is among the top free agents available, coming in somewhere behind Memphis’ Marc Gasol and Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge.

Free agency has been a challenge for Ainge, Celtics

BOSTON -- The Boston Celtics are being cautiously optimistic heading into the free-agency period. That’s because as challenging as it was for them to find a high impact player in the draft, it will just as daunting a task for them to find a difference maker via free agency.

Instead of a "who’s who" list of players, Boston's free agency alumni association is more of the "who’s that?" variety.
