By Chris Forsberg ..ORLANDO, Fla. -- Rapid reaction after the Boston Celtics acquired center Tyler Zeller, guard Marcus Thornton and a future first-round pick as part of a three-team swap with the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. The Celtics are expected to give up nothing more than a possible second-round pick (likely with protection from being too high in the round...

Rumor mill: Rox eye Rondo; C's eye Turner?

• Rapid Reaction: So we've been down this road before. Back in February we heard the Rockets expressed interest in Rondo around the trade deadline (though it appeared the Celtics weren't very interested in listening). Now, the Rockets, having already dispensed Chandler Parsons, Omer Asik, and Jeremy Lin for underwhelming return (three guys that could have been key parts in any sort of Rondo offer) and having whiffed in pursuit of big-name free agents like Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony, are left scrambling to add another star. Geez, sure seems like a team that could use some positive press

Celts get a hot hand in Thornton

By Chris Forsberg..Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens is speaking from experience when he notes that Marcus Thornton is a proven scorer. The year before Butler University embarked on the first of two Cinderella runs to the NCAA title game, Stevens and his Bulldogs were unceremoniously bounced from the opening round of the tournament when Thornton, an NBA-bound sophomore, poured in 30 points to help eighth-seeded LSU edge ninth-seeded Butler...

Offseason reset: Where C's stand
By Chris Forsberg

After a flurry of activity on Tuesday, the Boston Celtics had a quiet Wednesday. This is the part of the offseason when things typically start to downshift a bit. The Celtics still have some work to do and there's always potential for a late-July squall, but this lull seemed like a good time to analyze what Boston has accomplished thus far and what's left on its offseason to-do list.

THE OFFSEASON SO FAR
A rundown of the transactions that Boston has made since late June:
• June 26: Drafted guard Marcus Smart (6th) and forward James Young (17th)
• July 2: Agreed to four-year, $32 million extension with restricted free agent guard Avery Bradley
• July 9: Acquired center Tyler Zeller, guard Marcus Thornton and Cleveland's 2016 first-round pick as part of a three-team trade with the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers

Grousbeck: 'A patient summer so far'

Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck said Sunday that the team had hoped to make a big-bang move this offseason, but remained content with the direction of the franchise despite quieter activity. Grousbeck, who coined the buzzword "fireworks" earlier this year while citing a desire for rebuilding Boston to revert to contender status with impact moves, suggested the team explored potential deals, but couldn't find a willing trade partner...

Loose ends in Humphries sign-and-trade

Two bits of info to close up the loose ends in the sign-and-trade deal that delivered Kris Humphries from the Boston Celtics to the Washington Wizards:

• The Celtics generated a trade exception valued at $4.25 million. They have until July 19, 2015 to utilize it. (For those interested, Washington still has $4.3 million remaining on a trade exception generated from Trevor Ariza's departure).

• Washington sent a 2015 second-round pick to Boston that is top-49 protected, meaning the Wizards will have to be one of the top 11 teams in basketball, record-wise, next season to convey that pick to Boston. The good news: ...
