NBA Draft: Lottery winner still facing roll of the dice

Winning the rights to the top overall draft pick in Tuesday’s NBA Draft Lottery might not cause franchise-wide celebration or bring a surge in ticket sales at the team’s box office. The 2013 draft, more than any in recent memory, has no sure thing at No. 1. “I think when ...

It's mockable, for sure, but here's my guess at the 2013 Draft
David Aldridge

You mean, let me understand this cause, you know maybe it's me ... but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to ... amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?
--Tommy DeVito, hoodlum, "Goodfellas"

What am I, some kind of clown? Am I here to amuse you?

This is the dumbest thing I do all year. And I spend much of the year doing really dumb things.
Every year, my bosses at NBA.com ask me when I'm going to submit a mock Draft. I try to delay them as much as possible. I mention the grout work that needs completing in the bathroom. There are the commemorative ALF stamps that I want to buy at the Post Office. The dentist insists she needs to see me, pronto, for some root canal work.
I've DVR'd "Gigli".

Rice Jr. goes from NBA D-League to draft’s first round
By Erik Matuszewski
NEW YORK — A sharpshooting touch has given Glen Rice Jr. a chance to make history at the National Basketball Association draft as the first player from the sport’s developmental league to be taken in the opening round.

The son of three-time NBA All-Star Glen Rice led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a D-League title this season after being kicked off the basketball team at Georgia Tech during his junior year.

NBA: Cavs take Bennett No. 1

NEW YORK (AP) — Anthony Bennett was stunned at the start. David Stern had a big surprise at the finish.

In between, Nerlens Noel and a number of others experienced wild rides to start their careers in an unsettled first round of the NBA draft.

Bennett became the first Canadian No. 1 overall pick, and Noel tumbled out of the top five and right into a trade, the first of many moves that took a back seat to one in the works for the team that calls Barclays Center home.
