Red Claws win on the road, 106-94
The Red Claws employ tough defense and a strong game by DaJuan Summers to beat Sioux Falls and improve to 9-4.

By MATT ZIMMER

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Maine used a balanced scoring attack and strong defensive effort to cruise to a road victory over suddenly slumping Sioux Falls, as the Red Claws sent the Skyforce to a third straight home loss with a 106-94 win before 2,682 fans.

DaJuan Summers had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Claws, while Xavier Silas added 19 points and six assists. Six Red Claws finished in double figures overall.

Red Claws hit a pothole on the road
One night after beating Sioux Falls, Maine can't get its game together and suffers a 101-87 defeat.

By TOM SAVAGE

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Maine Red Claws entered Saturday night's game in Sioux Falls with an impressive 6-1 road record, which included a win Friday night at the Sioux Falls Arena against the Skyforce.

But on Saturday, the Skyforce never trailed in front of their biggest crowd of the season at 5,912 and dropped the Red Claws to 9-5 overall with a 101-87 victory.

Travel-weary Claws put on a show at Expo

Travel-weary Claws put on a show at Expo
With just eight players and very little sleep, Maine stays atop its division in front of a sold-out house.

By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - The list of excuses would have been impressive.

But the Maine Red Claws didn't use any of them, beating the Springfield Armor 105-84 Monday afternoon, before a sold-out Portland Expo crowd of 3,045.

The Red Claws were playing their third game in four days, their fourth in less than a week.

They were without four standouts because of injuries and NBA call-ups.

Silas comes off bench and paces Red Claws' win
Xavier Silas leads the way with 21 points and Portland makes it five wins in a row.

By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - Xavier Silas signed programs. He signed shirts, hats and basketballs. He posed for pictures as a small crowd gathered around him on the court.

Fortunately for the Maine Red Claws, Silas shook off defenders much more easily.

Silas came off the bench and scored 21 points to lead Maine to a 110-106 win over the Iowa Energy on Saturday night before 2,953 at the Portland Expo.

"X has done a great job in that role of being that energizing sixth man that does so many things on the floor," Maine Coach Mike Taylor said.

Red Claws weary and whipped
Five games in eight days takes its toll on Maine, which gets thrashed at home by fast-breaking Santa Cruz.

By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - Two Santa Cruz Warriors took off for another fast break.

This time the Maine Red Claws got back, with three defenders.

No problem for the Warriors. Darrington Hobson's behind-the-back pass zipped by two Red Claws as Travis Leslie got the ball and dropped in the layup for a 90-64 lead in the third quarter.

Wright stuff for Red Claws
Chris Wright scores 25 points and sets a team record with 20 rebounds, leading Maine to a 120-112 win over Springfield.

By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - NBA guard Tyshawn Taylor remembers playing against Chris Wright four years ago. Taylor's Kansas team faced Wright's Dayton Flyers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

"All coach kept saying about him is to watch out because he's an athlete," Taylor said. "He's been doing things like this for a while."

What Wright did was score 25 points and grab a team-record 20 rebounds to lead the Maine Red Claws to a 120-112 win over the Springfield Armor Sunday afternoon before a sold-out crowd of 3,045 at the Expo.

Red Claws: A trade and a win
Maine deals Kris Joseph to Springfield, and beats the Armor for the seventh time in eight meetings.

By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - Kris Joseph was working out before the Maine Red Claws' game. But he would not be suiting up.

If the paperwork had been hurried, Joseph could have played for Maine's opponent.

Maine traded Joseph to the Springfield Armor for power forward James Mays. Neither Joseph nor Mays was in the lineup Sunday afternoon, as the Red Claws topped the Armor 104-100 before 2,708 at the Portland Expo.

A lost weekend for Red Claws
Maine falls farther behind in the D-League playoff race as Canton completes a weekend sweep.

By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - With 6:51 to go in the game, the Maine Red Claws called timeout and the Portland Expo crowd got to its feet, screamed and cheered.

Exciting game?

No.

Free T-shirts.

The complimentary shirts that were thrown into crowd offered a little consolation for the defensive collapse experienced by the home team. The Canton Charge scored 70 points in the second half and routed the Red Claws, 108-83.

Claws score early but not often
A road loss to Fort Wayne deals a serious blow to Portland's playoff possibilities.

By PAUL D. BOWKER

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In the game's opening minute, Maine's Chris Wright sunk a pair of free throws.

That 2-0 lead was the best the exhausted Red Claws could manage Thursday night against the more energized Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

Jermaine Taylor continued his offensive stardom for the Red Claws, scoring a game-high 31 points, but Maine fell 107-93 to Fort Wayne in a D-League game that may have playoff implications. The Red Claws dropped to 23-23 and behind Fort Wayne (22-21) in the race for the last overall playoff spot.

Taylor scores 49 as Red Claws win
Jermaine Taylor scores the most points in a D-League game this season, and Maine remains alive.

By FRAN SYPEK

SPRINGFIELD , Mass. - The Maine Red Claws are still alive and have Jermaine Taylor to thank for it.

Taylor scored a D-League season--high 49 points Saturday night as the Red Claws beat the Springfield Armor 115-108 before 5,644 at the MassMutual Center.

"Jermaine is a very talented scorer and I don't know if there's a better scorer in this league," Red Claws Coach Mike Taylor said. "He's a fantastic kid who's been great to coach."
