PORTLAND - With a minute to go in the first half, 6-foot-1 Maine Red Claws guard Curtis Jerrells got position on 6-10 Kyle Goldcamp. Jerrells timed his jump and beat Goldcamp for the rebound.

Jerrells hurried up the floor but did not reach half court before heaving the ball into space.

Chris Wright filled that space, launching above the basket, grabbing the ball and slamming it down to the delight of a sold-out Portland Expo crowd of 3,045.

By JOHN DUDLEY

ERIE, Pa. — With Jermaine Taylor nursing a back injury that kept him out for most of the second half Friday night, the Maine Red Claws spread the points around to keep their D-League playoff hopes alive.

Chris Smith led six players in double figures with 23 points, and the Red Claws jumped to a big early lead and held off the Erie BayHawks 110-99 at Erie Insurance Arena.
