Claws show can-do style in Canton
The Red Claws open the season with a 40-point third quarter to erase an eight-point halftime deficit.

By JIM SMITH
CANTON, Ohio - The Maine Red Claws fell behind, made adjustments, then came away with a 123-115 victory against the Canton Charge in a D-League opener Friday night.

"Every game is like a puzzle, and you have to prepare to figure it out and make the right adjustments," said Mike Taylor, the Red Claws' first-year coach.

After being outscored 30-19 in the opening quarter, the Red Claws outscored the Charge in each of the final three, including a 40-point third quarter.

NBA D-LEAGUE: Claws move to 2-0
BY PAUL D. BOWKER

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Streaking toward the basket, Boston Celtics draft pick Fab Melo reached up for teammate Shelvin Mack's pass and in a thundering movement, slammed the ball home for two points.

The statement basket helped carry the Red Claws to a 117-112 NBA Development League victory Sunday over Fort Wayne in a game packed full of Maine highlight moments.

For the first time in franchise history, the Red Claws are 2-0 entering their home opener Friday against the LA D-fenders, the development team of the Los Angeles Lakers, at the Portland Expo. The Red Claws will wear Celtics jerseys for that game.

Red Claws get worked over by Skyforce
A strong fourth quarter lifts visiting Sioux Falls over Maine in a Sunday matinee at the Expo.

By Kevin Miller

PORTLAND - The words tasted like vinegar coming out of Chris Wright's mouth.

"We just got outworked," he said. "We really, really got outworked. I don't know what else to say."

That about summed up the Maine Red Claws' 98-87 loss to the Sioux Falls Skyforce Sunday afternoon at the Portland Expo.

A back-and-forth game through three quarters fell apart for the Red Claws.

NBA D-LEAGUE: Tip doesn't beat buzzer for Claws
BY DUANE RANKIN

Shelvin Mack will have a hard time forgetting the finish to Maine's 101-100 loss Sunday to the Erie BayHawks.

Mack's potential game-winning shot bounced high off the rim and appeared to have a chance to drop, but Chris Wright tipped the ball in after the final buzzer.

"I don't like to think about it," he said. "It's over with. Probably make me mad."

The refs ruled Wright's tip came after the final buzzer.

Wright on, Red Claws win
Chris Wright gets a double-double and Shelvin Mack gets hot when needed as the Red Claws win at home.
By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND — Fort Wayne guard Walker Russell stands 6-foot-1. So when he drove for a layup against 7-foot center Fab Melo, Russell used his speed to fly around Melo.

But as Russell released the ball, 6-8 Chris Wright soared in and swatted it away.

Wright explodes from point A to point D, skipping B and C. He zips by defenders for crowd-pleasing dunks, and launches into the stands for determined rebounds.

Red Claws: Fab effort all for naught
Erie beats Maine despite a blockbuster performance by Red Claws center Fab Melo.

By MARK JEANNERET

PORTLAND - Fab Melo enjoyed a memorable night. Too bad it didn't include a victory.

Melo established a D-League record with 14 blocks and recorded the third triple-double in franchise history, but it wasn't enough as the Maine Red Claws dropped an 85-78 decision to the Erie Bayhawks at the Expo Saturday night.

"Fab Melo was fabulous today," said Red Claws Coach Mike Taylor. "He played the best game of his short D-League career. He was tremendous on both ends. Obviously, with the D-League record for blocked shots, that says it all right there. But he provided some offense and rebounding for us to get the triple-double. Fantastic effort."

Melo leads Red Claws to 108-94 victory
Fab Melo records a season-high 32 points against the Idaho Stampede.

By JASON CHATRAW

BOISE, Idaho – With three key players out of the lineup, the Maine Red Claws didn't miss a beat in a 108-94 victory over the Idaho Stampede on Wednesday evening at CenturyLink Arena in D-League action.

After starters Chris Joseph and Shelvin Mack received call ups on Saturday and with Chris Wright unavailable due to a concussion, the Red Claws (8-4) turned to Fab Melo and were not disappointed.

The Celtics' top pick followed up his record-setting performance of 14 blocks on Saturday with a season-high 32 points and nine blocks to lead Maine.
