Celtics awarded 2013 pick

The NBA has granted Boston a 2013 second-round pick from Oklahoma City in a dispute over guard Jeff Green's medical condition.

Yahoo! Sports had earlier reported the NBA's decision. The pick going to Boston is a pick the Thunder acquired from the Charlotte Bobcats in 2011 for Byron Mullens.

The Celtics acquired Green in a 2011 trade that sent Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City. The deal also sent Nenad Krstic and a first-round pick (No. 22 overall in Thursday's draft via the Clippers) to Boston and Nate Robinson to the Thunder.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers has another job at draft
By JIMMY GOLEN

WALTHAM, Mass. — Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers has been excused from the team’s draft room this year so he can concentrate on more pressing matters. “He’s heading to New York with Austin,” general manager Danny Ainge said Wednesday, “which is where he should be.” Rivers has a dual role ...

Celtics have many good options in draft
By Gary Washburn

WALTHAM — The Celtics have picked the most appropriate draft to have negotiating power.

Team president of basketball operations Danny Ainge discussed the Celtics’ draft potential at the team’s practice facility and wouldn’t commit to anything — nor should he. Ainge has no idea what’s going to occur today in New York, where several teams ahead of the Celtics in the draft have interesting agendas.

The Lakers are trying to trade up, and have Pau Gasol to offer. The Rockets are collecting first-round picks like Easter eggs to acquire Dwight Howard from Orlando while college players such as Jared Sullinger and Perry Jones III are dropping because of various issues.

Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen to decide
By Greg Payne

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is optimistic that free agents Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen might return to Boston, but he can't be sure.

On Garnett, Ainge said it's still unclear if the free agent forward will re-sign with the Celtics, but that he expects to know before Sunday, when the team can begin negotiations with other free agents.

"We're having a conversation with Kevin, but we don't have any answers on whether he's coming back or not," Ainge told reporters at the Celtics' practice facility. "I'll know that by July 1. I'll be in communication with him and I'll have some sort of read on that and a better feel."

Jared Sullinger, Fab Melo to Celtics
By Greg Payne

BOSTON -- The Boston Celtics selected Ohio State sophomore forward Jared Sullinger with the 21st overall pick and Syracuse sophomore center Fab Melo with the 22nd overall pick in the NBA draft on Thursday night.

"Obviously we needed to address size," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "The fact that number one, Jared Sullinger fell to us, is just fortunate. Last year he would have a been a top-5 pick. It gives us a rebounder, a high IQ player, a good player, a really good player from the outside."

Celtics hope to solve issues facing draft picks Sullinger, Melo
By Howard Ulman

BOSTON — Jared Sullinger had back problems. Fab Melo’s troubles came in the classroom. The Boston Celtics hope the two big men they drafted on Thursday night will help fix some of their issues on the court. At their best, Sullinger was a productive scorer from the inside and the ...
