Patriots, Eagles have different situations at quarterback
BY ROB MAADDI

PHILADELPHIA -- Tom Brady picked the secondary apart in a scrimmage. Tim Tebow looked sharp firing passes against backups during another drill. In between, Ryan Mallet completed his share of throws.

All this against the Philadelphia Eagles at their practice complex.

While the New England Patriots clearly have no questions about their quarterback situation, Michael Vick and Nick Foles continued competition for Philadelphia's starting job. For the past two days, they've faced New England's defense during joint practices before Friday night's preseason opener.

NFL: Vick, Foles will split reps vs. Patriots
By ROB MAADDI

PHILADELPHIA — Michael Vick or Nick Foles? Might as well flip a coin

Vick will start for the Philadelphia Eagles in their preseason opener against New England on Friday night only because it’s his turn to go first in the quarterback rotation. Foles also will take snaps with the starters, and the second-year pro will start the second preseason game.

“It was Mike’s day in the rotation, that was the easiest way for us to do it and then we’ll make sure the rotation

Tim O’Sullivan: Five things to watch for in Patriots’ preseason opener

The game won’t count in the standings, but New Engand’s preseason opener tonight in Philadelphia does matter. Just ask the millions of fans who have been waiting to watch their beloved Patriots take the field since last season ended. Or ask the players who are trying to make the team, or make an impression, while they have a chance. With that in mind, here are five areas to watch as the Pats take on the Eagles.

The top pick

The best part of preseason is probably seeing how the rookies react in their first professional games. Most of the attention during New England’s training camp has been focused on the rookies who are trying to fill the void in the receiving corps, and that’s a plot that definitely deserves attention. But the Patriots top pick from

QB Brady sharp in Pats’ preseason victory over Eagles

Although it was only a preseason opener for both teams, the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles put on a star-spangled, nationally televised show Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field. For the record, the Patriots won 31-22, but that may be recalled as a footnote in a game that featured ...

NFL: Belichick eager to see Patriots build off 1st outing
By HOWARD ULMAN

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — One exhibition game isn’t enough for Bill Belichick to make any firm decisions.

So after watching his runners pile up yards, his best cornerback give up a long touchdown pass and Tim Tebow do better running than throwing, the New England coach is eager to see more.

“Way too early to make any definitive decisions,” Belichick said Saturday, “but we’re making progress and we have more to work with than we had five days ago.

NFL: Kelly adjusting to life with Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Tommy Kelly knows he must stay out of the way of the other starting defensive tackle on the New England Patriots.

Since that's 325-pound Vince Wilfork, it's a pretty big task.

But the newcomer to the Patriots after nine years with the Oakland Raiders is getting used to his defensive neighbor in training camp.

"I've got to learn how Vince likes to rush. He's got to learn how I like to rush," Kelly said Monday.

The Bucs will stop here to play Patriots in preseason

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers should be quite familiar by the time they meet in the third game of the regular season.

The Patriots host Tampa Bay in a preseason game Friday night and the Buccaneers are coming to Foxborough early for a series of joint practices starting today.

The Patriots did the same thing last week in Philadelphia before opening the preseason with a 30-22 exhibition win over the Eagles.

Brady knee sprain not believed to be serious
By The Sports Xchange

Initial fears that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady may have suffered a serious leg injury have subsided in light of numerous followup reports that the injury is not that serious.
