MIKE LOWE — PATRIOTS BEAT: Many draft questions remain for Patriots

By Mike Lowe

It's never easy to predict what Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are going to do in the NFL draft. This year, it's darn near impossible.

The team has only five picks in the draft, the lowest number in franchise history. They have the 29th pick in the first round, which will be held Thursday night in prime time. They have none in the fourth, fifth and six rounds where Belichick does his best work.

NFL DRAFT: Patriots light on picks

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots head into the NFL draft with their usual needs at wide receiver and in the secondary.

Maybe Bill Belichick will make better choices than he did in his other 13 years as their coach.

He'll have only five chances, the fewest picks in team history, barring trades, so there could be increased emphasis on signing players who don't get chosen in the three-day draft that ends Saturday.

Offensive tackles may highlight 2013 NFL Draft
By Jeff Reynolds

For only the second time in the past 16 years, the debate at the top of the NFL Draft doesn’t involve a quarterback. “This is a really a meat and potatoes draft, certainly early in the first couple of rounds with linemen, which is exciting,” said Howie Roseman, general manager .

Chiefs’ Reid sticks close to his heart by taking tackle Fisher with No. 1 pick

Offensive tackles Eric Fisher and Luke Joeckel were the first two picks in the 2013 NFL Draft, the first time since 1968 that the top two picks were offensive linemen. Seven more blockers were selected in the subsequent 30 picks Thursday. Fisher became only the fourth offensive lineman to be ...

NFL: Patriots trade 1st round pick

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots traded their first-round pick in the NFL draft to the Minnesota Vikings for four picks Thursday night.

Coach Bill Belichick shipped the 29th choice for selections in the second, third, fourth and seventh rounds this year. Those are the 52nd, 83rd, 102nd and 229th overall. With the Patriots' pick, the Vikings chose wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson of Tennessee.

NFL DRAFT: Patriots load up on defense

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Jamie Collins made his mark with one of the worst college teams in the country. Now he's headed for one of the best in the NFL after being drafted by the New England Patriots.

The outside linebacker was chosen in the second round on Friday night by the Patriots, who were just one win away from reaching the Super Bowl last season. Southern Mississippi was 0-12 in Collins' senior season when he had 10 sacks.

NFL DRAFT: Patriots nab Boyce, trade for Blount
By MATTHEW CARROLL

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Josh Boyce is one lucky wide receiver.

As if playing with Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III in high school and the Cincinnati Bengals’ Andy Dalton in college wasn’t enough, Boyce will be on the receiving end of passes from Tom Brady after the New England Patriots selected the TCU receiver with the fifth pick in the fourth round Saturday.

“All three of them are great guys, great quarterbacks,” Boyce said. “I’ve been blessed to play with great quarterbacks my whole career.”

TRAVIS LAZARCZYK: Looking back at Pats drafts before looking forward
By Travis Lazarczyk

Welcome to New England, Jamie Collins. Everything I know about you, I learned in about 10 minutes Friday night, right after you were the Patriots’ first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. I know you are 6-foot-2, 250 pounds, can play defensive end or linebacker and you had 10 sacks last season while playing for Southern Mississippi.

NFL: Jones hopes to help rookies

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Chandler Jones can't believe how quickly his first NFL season went with the New England Patriots.

Now last year's first-round draft pick from Syracuse wants to help the new group of rookies who open minicamp today.

"It happened very fast," Jones said Thursday. "I posted it on my Twitter about my anniversary of being here on April 26. It's crazy."

The defensive end met briefly with outside linebacker Jamie Collins, the Patriots' top pick this year who posed at midfield with a No. 1 jersey alongside owner Robert Kraft and his son, Jonathan, the team president.

Five NFL teams still have no signed draftees
By Howard Balzer

When the Jacksonville Jaguars signed cornerback Jeremy Harris to a four-year contract, they removed themselves from the list of NFL teams without a signed draft pick as of Monday when cornerback Jeremy Harris signed a four-year contract. That left five teams that have not signed any of their choices. A ..
