Ramirez’s Big Hit Fuels Boston’s Comeback Win

The Boston Red Sox fell behind the Pittsburgh Pirates early in Thursday’s contest at Fenway Park, but they were able to pick themselves back up thanks to a big eighth inning.

Boston pulled off the 4-3 win after a one-out walk to second baseman Dustin Pedroia in the eighth inning set the stage for a three-run rally that included a bases-loaded double for designated hitter Hanley Ramirez. It was the Red Sox’s first lead of the day, but it was all they needed in the end.

On the other side of the ball, starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez’s day could’ve been better, but it wasn’t his worst start by any means. The left-hander went home with the no-decision at the end of the day.

Red Sox 7, Rays 5: Christian Vazquez and Mitch Moreland are on fire

It took a few innings, but the Red Sox were able to string some hits together and help out Drew Pomeranz. The Red Sox starter had a rough first inning and was up-and-down all day, but his team still pulled out the win.

As I alluded to, things got off to a rocky start for Pomeranz, although it wasn’t entirely his fault. He immediately allowed two batters to start the game, both on walks. To be fair, both walks involved some close calls on pitches that could’ve gone either way. While it didn’t stay quite like this all day, the umpire had something of a small zone to start the game. With Steven Souza and Kevin Kiermaier on base, Pomeranz got his first strikeout of the day against Evan Longoria.

After that, Brad Miller hit a fly ball to left-center field, and Andrew Benintendi drifted out towards the ball. Except, he couldn’t make the play. It’s hard to be sure, but he looked like he both took a bad route to the ball and then wasn’t sure where the wall was. Whatever the reason, it should’ve been caught and was a play in which the Red Sox missed Jackie Bradley. Miller got a triple on the play, and the Rays put two on the board. In the next at bat, Pomeranz threw a pitch down and in against Rickie Weeks. Rather than putting his body in front of it, Christian Vazquez made an uncharacteristic mistake and just stabbed at it with his glove. That did not work as the ball got by him and Miller came in to score the Rays’ third run of the game. Pomeranz would allow one more base runner in the inning, but also struck out two more.

Benintendi, Bullpen Power Patriots’ Day Win Over Rays

The Red Sox did their part to make sure Patriots’ Day was celebrated properly in Boston on Monday. The Sox battled from behind against the Tampa Bay Rays for the second consecutive game, relying on the bat of Andrew Benintendi and a strong bullpen effort to squeeze out a 4-3 win at Fenway Park. Steven Wright finally hit his stride and got some help from his bullpen to earn his first win of the season, as the Red Sox notched their third consecutive victory to improve to 8-5. Boston is now 70-52 all time on Patriots’ Day.

Manny Machado in center of bad blood as Red Sox beat Orioles

BALTIMORE — A spikes-high slide. A near beanball. Harsh talk in the clubhouse.

The rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles soared to a new level over the weekend, and there’s no telling what might happen when they soon meet again.

A tempestuous three-game series between these AL East foes wound up with Orioles star Manny Machado seeing a fastball sail behind his head and Matt Barnes getting ejected for throwing it Sunday in Boston’s 6-2 victory.
