Andrew Benintendi Named Eastern League Player of the Week

***Headed to Seattle to join the Red Sox today***

Portland, Maine - The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has selected Portland Sea Dogs' outfielder Andrew Benintendi as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of July 25th - July 31st, 2016.

The 22-year old batted .478 (11-for-23) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 RBIs, seven runs scored, one stolen base, two walks and a .957 slugging percentage in six games for the Sea Dogs last week. Benintendi had at least one hit in all six games he played in last week and collected multiple hits in three of those games, including going 4-for-5 with a pair of homers and a career-high five RBIs in an 8-1 win at Binghamton on Sunday. Benintendi led all Eastern League players in batting average (.478) and OPS (1.477) last week and tied for the league lead in runs scored (7), hits (11), total bases (22) and RBIs (10). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in extra-base hits (6-2nd), slugging percentage (.957-2nd), home runs (2-tied 2nd), doubles (3-tied 3rd), on-base percentage (.520-tied 3rd) and triples (1-tied 4th).

In 63 games with Portland this season, Benintendi is hitting .295 with 18 doubles, five triples, eight home runs, 44 RBI, 24 walks, and eight stolen bases. Benintendi currently leads the Sea Dogs in doubles, runs scored, and RBI, and is tied for the team lead in home runs.

Benintendi has combined to hit .312 in 97 games combined between High-A Salem and Portland this season, his first full year as a professional. He has 31 doubles, 12 triples, 9 home runs, 76 RBI, 16 stolen bases, 70 runs scored, and 39 walks compared to 39 strikeouts. He is tied for the most triples among all minor league baseball players and leads all Red Sox farmhands in RBI.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Benintendi was selected by the Red Sox in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2015 June Draft out of the University of Arkansas. He is ranked by Baseball America as the No. 2 prospect in the Red Sox organization and the No. 9 prospect in all of baseball in their 2016 midseason top prospect list.

This marks the third time in Benintendi's career that he has received Player of the Week honors. He previously won the award in the New York-Penn league with Short-Season Lowell for the week of 8/10-8/17/15 and earlier this season in the Carolina League with Salem for the week of 4/25-5/1/16.

Benintendi is the third Sea Dog to earn Eastern League weekly honors this year, joining Keith Couch (7/4-7/10) and Aaron Wilkerson (4/7-4/17), who earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors.

Stankiewicz Nearly Perfect in Sea Dogs 3-0 Win

Portland, Maine - Teddy Stankiewicz threw the first nine-inning complete game one-hitter in Sea Dogs franchise history as Portland (41-67) shutout Erie (44-65) 3-0 in front of 6,189 fans on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.

Stankiewicz (W, 4-7) retired 27 of 28 batters faced, with the lone hit coming in the sixth inning on a one-out single by Grayson Greiner. Stankiewicz set a season-high with seven strikeouts and worked his second complete game of the season (5/14 v. Binghamton, 7.0 IP).

The Sea Dogs plated the game's first run on an RBI ground rule double by Mauricio Dubon to score Rainel Rosario.

Portland struck again when Dubon led off the sixth with a double and Ryan Court doubled him in to extend the lead to 2-0. The Sea Dogs added their third run in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Dubon to score Rosario.

SeaWolves starter Artie Lewicki allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings, walking none and striking out six.

Portland and Erie square off for game two of their series tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. LHP Jalen Beeks (2-2, 4.46) is scheduled to start for Portland against RHP David Martinez (1-1, 4.12) of Erie. Rosario’s grand slam lifts Sea Dogs by Erie

Portland, Maine - Rainel Rosario hit a grand slam over the Maine Monster with two outs in the fourth inning and the Sea Dogs (42-67) held on to defeat the Erie SeaWolves (44-66) 5-4 and clinch a series victory Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth, Ryan Court walked, Cody Decker and Cole Sturgeon each singled to load the bases. After David Martinez (L, 1-2) struck out Jake Romanski for the second out of the inning, Rosario hit a towering fly that snuck over the Monster in left field to put the Sea Dogs ahead for good 5-3.

The grand slam was the first of the year for Portland and their first since Tim Roberson hit one on May 15, 2015.

Sea Dogs starter Jalen Beeks (W, 3-2) pitched six solid innings and allowed four runs on eight hits while walking none and striking out six.

The Sea Dogs got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first. After a leadoff single by Aneury Tavarez and a double by Mauricio Dubon, Nate Freiman hit a sac fly with one out to put Portland up early 1-0.

Erie tied the game in the third inning. After a leadoff double by Corey Jones, he advanced to third base on a groundout and scored on a sac fly by Dominic Ficociello to tie the game 1-1.

Erie took the lead in the third on a two-out, two-run bloop single by Anthony Gose to give the SeaWolves a 3-1 advantage.

After Portland took the lead 5-3 in the fourth, Erie made it a one-run game on a sac fly by Gustavo Nunez in the fifth inning.

Williams Jerez pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Sea Dogs, while Ben Taylor (S, 2) closed out the game with a perfect ninth.

Portland goes for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 noon. RHP Mitch Atkins (3-5, 4.90) is scheduled to start for Portland against RHP Tommy Collier (7-6, 2.99) of Erie. SeaWolves slug way past Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine - The Erie SeaWolves (45-66) hit four solo homers and led wire-to-wire in a 9-3 victory over the Sea Dogs (42-68) on Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Portland still won the series two games to one.

Anthony Gose led off the ballgame with a solo homer to center field on the second pitch he saw from Mitch Atkins (L, 3-6). Three batters later with two outs, Jason Krizan hit a solo homer over the Sea Dogs' bullpen to make it 2-0 Erie after the first inning.

Atkins allowed five runs on six hits in five innings while walking four and striking out seven.

After Erie scored twice in the third inning, Danny Bethea led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer over the Maine Monster on the first pitch he saw from Tommy Collier.

Collier (ND) allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Tommy Shirley (W, 1-0) worked two scoreless innings of relief and struck out three.

Erie added a run in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Corey Jones to score Mike Gerber, then scored twice in the sixth off of Jake Drehoff on a solo homer by Grayson Greiner and an RBI single by Gustavo Nunez to make it 7-2.

Erie's fourth home run came in the eighth on a leadoff solo shot by Kody Eaves off of Ty Buttrey.

Cole Sturgeon hit a solo homer off of Paul Voelker in the bottom of the eighth for his fifth homer of the season.

The Sea Dogs' homestand continues as the Akron RubberDucks visit Hadlock Field for a three-game series beginning tomorrow night at 6:00 PM. RHP Kevin McAvoy (7-6, 6.52) is gets the ball for Portland against LHP Rob Kaminsky (5-7, 3.70) of Akron. The Force is Strong with the Sea Dogs in 9-4 Win

Portland, Maine - The Sea Dogs (43-69) used two big innings to run away with a 9-4 win over the Akron RubberDucks (56-58) in front of a sellout crowd on Star Wars night at Hadlock Field.

After Akron took a 1-0 lead two batters into the game, Portland scored four times in the second inning and four more in the fourth to jump out to an 8-1 lead.

Aneury Tavarez hit a two-run triple in the second and finished 2-for-5, his 27th multi-hit game of the year. He now leads the Eastern League with a .324 average and ranks second with nine triples. Mauricio Dubon added a three-run double in the fourth and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-1. Cody Decker hit his eighth homer of the season in the seventh for Portland's ninth run.

Jacob Dahlstrand (W, 2-1) was the victor, allowing one run on four hits in five innings, walking three and striking out four. Lendy Castillo (L, 0-1) allowed four runs on four hits in 1.2 innings in a spot start.

The Sea Dogs cranked out 15 hits. In addition to Tavarez, Rainel Rosario (3-4, RBI, 2 R), Decker (3-5, HR, RBI, 2 R), Tzu-Wei Lin (2-2, 2 R, 2 BB), and Nate Freiman (2-3, R, BB) all collected multi-hit games.

Jordan Smith hit a three-run homer into the Sea Dogs' bullpen off of Taylor Grover to set the final score at 9-4.

The rubber match is set for tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM. RHP Keith Couch (7-4, 3.40) is scheduled to start for Portland vs. RHP Nick Pasquale (1-5, 4.91) for Akron.
