GAME ONE RECAP

LHP Henry Owens became the first pitcher in franchise history to win 14 games, as the 'Dogs took the twinbill opener 3-2 at Hadlock Field. Owens is also the first pitcher in professional baseball to reach 14 victories. Reading made things interesting in the final two innings, but Aaron Kurcz earned the save, working around a lead-off double by Kelly Dugan in the ninth. Johnson Allows One Hit Over 7.1 Innings & Meneses Delivers a 2-Run Double in the 8th. Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (71-41) were stymied all afternoon, but plated a pair in the eighth and took down the Reading Fightin Phils (45-64) 2-1, in front of a sellout crowd of 7,368, Wednesday afternoon at Hadlock Field. The win gives Portland the series, 3-1, and ups the season series to 13-5 in their favor. Portland trailed 1-0 all afternoon, but turned it around in the eighth inning against the Reading bullpen...

Henry Owens dazzles in Triple-A debut with PawSox
BY BRIAN MACPHERSON

PAWTUCKET, R.I. — This Henry Owens fellow might have a future in this game.
“He’s a beauty,” PawSox manager Kevin Boles said. In a Red Sox farm system full of highly touted youngsters, Henry Owens ascended to the top of the list with a succession of no-hit bids at Double-A Portland late last season and early this season. That earned him a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket, where he made his debut on Monday at McCoy Stadium — and he picked up right where he left off...

Sea Dogs continue success on the road
Portland beats Bowie 7-4 and clinches a winning road record for the season.

BY RICH SCHERR ..BOWIE, Md. — The Portland Sea Dogs walked to get their runs Wednesday night, coming away with a 7-4 victory against the Bowie Baysox. The Sea Dogs drew 11 walks, wasted one scoring opportunity after another, then used run-scoring singles by Carson Blair and Shannon Wilkerson in the ninth inning. “We had some quality at-bats all game but we were just missing that one timely hit,” said Blair. “I had a chance with the bases loaded in the fifth to do some damage, so it was nice to help do it in the ninth.”..

Sea Dogs’ bullpen falters in loss to Flying Squirrels

RICHMOND, Va. — The Portland Sea Dogs’ bullpen struggled again and gave up four runs in the seventh en route to the 6-0 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels Sunday afternoon in the series finale. The loss, along with the New Britain win, keeps the Sea Dogs magic number at …

Sea Dogs’ bullpen falters in ninth inning
Akron scores twice to pull out a 5-4 win.

BY KEVIN THOMAS..He is now the ace of the Portland Sea Dogs’ staff. And Brian Johnson certainly looks the part. Johnson pitched a four-hitter over six innings Tuesday night. But the Portland bullpen again failed as the Akron RubberDucks rallied for a 5-4 win over the Sea Dogs before 7,106 at Hadlock Field. Akron scored two runs in the ninth on four hits off Sea Dogs closer Noe Ramirez...

On Baseball: Sea Dogs have new players, but same old goal
Ten players who began the season with the Sea Dogs are now with Triple-A Pawtucket.

BY KEVIN THOMAS..The team had the makings of a champion but, slowly, some of its star players were taken away. The 2013 Salem Red Sox lost third baseman Garin Cecchini, reliever Noe Ramirez, ace starter Henry Owens and shortstop Deven Marrero, all to promotions to Double-A Portland. Salem then won the Carolina League championship anyway. “One guy would move up and another guy moved in and (played just as well),” said Sea Dogs first baseman Stefan Welch, a Salem regular last year...

RubberDucks squeak by struggling Sea Dogs for sweep
by Randy Whitehouse

PORTLAND — These are not last spring's Portland Sea Dogs. They're barely last month's Portland Sea Dogs. Thursday's doubleheader sweep at the hands of Akron provided more evidence that the Sea Dogs are suffering from the talent drain that inevitably occurs whenever a minor league tea...

Sea Dogs Snap Four Game Slide, Win 5-1
Rodriguez Tosses Six Solid Innings with 7 Strikeouts

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (76-50) bounced back off of a series sweep and returned to their winning ways with a 5-1 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (70-55) Friday night at Hadlock Field. The win marks the 76th of the season for Portland, tying the 2005 Sea Dogs for the most wins as a Red Sox affiliate.

The Sea Dogs sent Eduardo Rodriguez to the hill in hopes of snapping a four-game losing streak and he certainly got them off on the right foot. The southpaw pitched a scoreless first and froze Kelby Tomlinson with a 96 MPH fastball for his first strike out of the night.

Just enough of the Force with Sea Dogs
On ‘Star Wars’ night, the Sea Dogs edge Richmond 1-0 in 10 innings.

BY MARK EMMERT..“Star Wars” night brought out the drama, and the unlikely heroes, Saturday at Hadlock Field. Heiker Meneses, a .185 hitter for the Portland Sea Dogs, struck the big blow, a run-scoring single in the bottom of the 10th inning that produced a 1-0 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The bases were loaded, and the count was full, when Meneses drove a sinker off the wall in left-center field to send his teammates rushing out of the dugout and create pandemonium among the sellout crowd of 7,368.
