Peavy heads for Red Sox NEW RED SOX STARTER

BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Red Sox acquired Jake Peavy from the Chicago White Sox in a three-team deal on Tuesday night that also sent shortstop Jose Iglesias to the Detroit Tigers.

The slick-fielding Iglesias provides a nice insurance policy for AL Central-leading Detroit in case Jhonny Peralta is suspended as part of baseball's Biogenesis drug investigation.

MLB: Red Sox excited about Peavy
BOSTON (AP) -- Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz didn't hesitate when asked what he remembered most about newly acquired right-hander Jake Peavy.

A year later, he was correct.

The Red Sox acquired the 2007 NL Cy Young winner from the Chicago White Sox in a three-team deal on Tuesday night that also sent shortstop Jose Iglesias to the Detroit Tigers.

Peavy ready to help Red Sox contend

BOSTON — Jake Peavy last appeared in the postseason in 2006.

He's hoping that slump is about to end.

The 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner arrived at Fenway Park on Thursday, about two days after he was traded by the last-place Chicago White Sox to the first-place Red Sox.

The 32-year-old right-hander, who pitched for the Padres in the postseason in 2005 and '06, said he would do all he could to help the Red Sox make it back to the playoff
