Portland scores in the first three innings to beat the Altoona Curve, 5-2.
By BILL ALBRIGHT

ALTOONA, Pa. — The Portland Sea Dogs began a six-game trip with a 5-2 win over the Altoona Curve Tuesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

"It was good for us to get off to a quick start, especially after the off day," said Sea Dogs Manager Kevin Boles. "The guys were ready to play. I thought we had a real good workout and they were able to carry it over into the game."

Masterful pitching stops Sea Dogs
By BILL ALBRIGHT

ALTOONA, Pa. - The Portland Sea Dogs won't be eager to see Mel Rojas Jr. anytime soon.

After giving the Altoona Curve a win with a walk-off single Wednesday night, Rojas hit a two-run triple in the eighth inning Thursday night for a 2-0 victory at PNG Field.

"I was just trying to protect the plate with two strikes on me," said Rojas. "I got a good pitch to hit and was able to put a good swing on it. I wasn't looking for any particular pitch. It was a breaking ball down (in the zone) and I was able to hit it hard."

One big inning turns duel into rout of Sea Dogs
Matt Barnes pitches five strong innings before faltering, and Portland is held to five hits.
By JOHN TUSCANO

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Matt Barnes made one costly mistake to Carlos Rivero in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday night

And it opened the floodgates for the host Harrisburg Senators in front of 6,854 at Metro Bank Park on City Island. The Senators chased Barnes and then unloaded on the bullpen to send Portland to an 8-0 loss.

EASTERN LEAGUE: Couch pitches complete game to lift Sea Dogs
BY MICK REINHARD

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Behind a complete-game gem from starting pitcher Keith Couch, the Portland Sea Dogs topped the Harrisburg Senators, 2-1, in front of 3,749 fans at Metro Bank Park.

Couch (10-3) allowed one run on six hits while striking out four to register Portland's first nine-inning complete game since knuckleballer Charlie Zink accomplished the feat on June 19, 2007.

Pitching and defense do it for the Sea Dogs
Another start like Monday's could have Chris Hernandez back in Pawtucket before long.
By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND — The game began with center fielder Shannon Wilkerson charging in for a diving grab of a shallow fly ball.

Then new shortstop Deven Marrero accelerated to a grounder headed for left field, and fired a strike to first base for the second out.

Two web gems and the Portland Sea Dogs were on their way Monday night -- especially with Chris Hernandez on the mound.

Sea Dogs' late rally snuffed by Cats
Portland leaves the bases loaded in an 8-6 loss to New Hampshire as a rally turns into a dud.
By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - It got interesting when the Portland Sea Dogs loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning.

But New Hampshire closer Alan Farina got a pop-up and a fly out to secure the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8-6 victory over the Sea Dogs Tuesday night, before a sold-out Hadlock Field crowd of 7,368.

Sea Dogs pitcher proves worthy of promotion
Just up from Salem, the young lefty throws seven shutout innings in his Double-A debut.
By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - The left-handed pitcher that Portland Sea Dogs fans expected to see did not take the mound.

But the other lefty worked out just fine.

And after a couple hiccups from the bullpen, all was good for the Sea Dogs in a 4-2 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Wednesday afternoon before a Hadlock Field crowd of 6,090.

Sea Dogs get a needed win
Pete Ruiz excels in relief in a 4-2 victory as Portland closes in on Trenton for a playoff spot.
By MIKE ASHMORE

TRENTON, N.J. - For the Portland Sea Dogs to make a playoff push in the final two weeks of the Eastern League season, they'll need to start overcoming some adversity. Starting pitcher Henry Owens provided an unexpected dose Thursday night, but an unlikely hero emerged from the bullpen to give the Sea Dogs a chance to win.
