Ranaudo sharp but Sea Dogs are stifled
Ryan Vogelsong, on a rehab stint from the Giants, stops Portland as Richmond wins, 4-0.
By JOHN PACKETT

RICHMOND, Va. — Anthony Ranaudo of the Portland Sea Dogs, who continues to be mentioned in trade talks involving the parent Boston Red Sox, did very little to lower his prospect status Tuesday night.

Ranaudo gave up two solo homers but pitched well overall.

Barnes shines, but Sea Dogs light on offense
Portland pitcher Matt Barnes still has just a 5-7 record after Richmond’s 3-2 victory.
By JOHN PACKETT

RICHMOND, Va. - Matt Barnes continues to pitch well for Portland with little to show for it.

Barnes, one of the top pitching prospects in the Boston system, turned in another solid performance Wednesday night against Richmond but got little support from his Portland Sea Dogs teammates in a 3-2 loss.

Barnes went 52/3 innings, allowing one earned run and four hits, walking three and striking out seven.

By JOHN PACKETT

RICHMOND, Va. - The Portland offense finally awoke after a lengthy slumber on its southern swing, but the Sea Dogs still couldn't avoid a series sweep at the hands of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, falling 6-5 in 10 innings Thursday night.

Sea Dogs finish trip with loss to Baysox
Portland erases a three-run deficit before dropping its series finale at Bowie, 6-4.
By JEFF SEIDEL

BOWIE, Md. - The Portland Sea Dogs missed out on a chance to complete a sweep of the Bowie Baysox on Sunday night. But Manager Kevin Boles wasn't all that upset, preferring to look at how well his team played during the three-game series.

The Sea Dogs couldn't keep Bowie's Buck Britton under control in the series finale. Britton drove in three runs, including the tiebreaker in the seventh inning as Bowie went on to a 6-4 victory at Prince George's Stadium.

Flying Squirrels swoop in to snatch victory from Sea Dogs
By Randy Whitehouse

PORTLAND — The deeper he went into his game-changing eighth inning at bat, the fewer pitches Adam Duvall liked. Richmond's third baseman found the eighth one suitable, though, and sent it into orbit over I-295. Duvall fouled off the first five pitches he saw from Portland reli...

Baseball: Losing streak continues for Dogs
By Kevin C. Mills

PORTLAND — The frustration continued for the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday.

Not only did Portland lose its fourth straight game, it dropped its sixth straight game to Richmond in a 4-1 loss in front of 6,919 at Hadlock Field.

Portland entered the day three games out of the second playoff spot in the Eastern Division, but the Sea Dogs squandered a solid start by Terry Doyle and left 10 runners on base.

Sea Dogs pitching prospect strikes early, often
Henry Owens, just up from Class A, has now fanned 19 batters in his first 10 innings with Portland.
By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - He threw six straight fastballs before unleashing that killer curve of his.

And just like that, Henry Owens struck out the first batter he faced at Hadlock Field Friday night.

Owens, the Boston Red Sox prized pitching prospect, would finish with eight strikeouts in four inning

Owens' new teammates backed him with offense as the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Bowie Baysox, 9-7.

Four-run ninth inning sends Sea Dogs to loss
Bowie rallies against Matt Maloney, and David Ross of the Red Sox appears as the Portland DH.
By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - The Portland Sea Dogs had two catchers in their lineup, one a big leaguer, the other who has plans to be there some day.

Christian Vazquez, who has a future in the major leagues, notched two RBI singles Saturday night and Red Sox catcher David Ross made an appearance as designated hitter.

Sea Dogs' bullpen left at a loss
Portland's relief troubles continue – this time a 5-1 lead in the eighth turns into a 6-5 setback.
By Kevin Thomas

PORTLAND - The battery of Matt Barnes and David Ross could possibly play at Fenway Park sometime next year.

The duo worked just fine Sunday at Hadlock Field. Barnes allowed four hits and one run over five innings.

But the start was wasted when the Portland Sea Dogs' bullpen gave it up again in a 6-5 loss to the Bowie Baysox before a sold-out Hadlock crowd of 7,368.
