Major League Notebook: Pirates add Deering's Reid to their bullpen

Former Deering High pitcher Ryan Reid has been called up to the majors for the first time by the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to a report Sunday night by ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Reid, a 28-year-old right-hander, has been dominant this season for Triple-A Indianapolis, posting a 6-1 record with one save and a 0.52 ERA in 342/3 innings, all in relief. He has struck out 31 and walked nine while allowing just 20 hits and two earned runs.

Reid signed with the Pirates during the offseason as a minor-league free agent after seven seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. He was one of the Pirates' last cuts this spring, when he allowed only one run in eight innings.

Working his way to bigs
BY BRIAN PELOZA

INDIANAPOLIS -- Ryan Reid couldn't believe what he was just told: He had been traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Indianapolis manager Dean Treanor -- manager of the Indianapolis Indians, the Pirates' top minor league team -- sat Reid down in the visiting clubhouse in Columbus to tell him the news. Never mind that Reid was putting together one of the best seasons of any reliever at the Triple-A level, he was on his way out.
