Red Sox DH position up for grabs with Ortiz sidelined
By The Sports Xchange

OK, now what?

Now that it’s clear designated hitter David Ortiz will not be ready for Opening Day — no one knows when he’ll be ready — the Red Sox must begin the unpalatable task of figuring out which dominoes will fall.

“Well, Opening Day was my goal,” a dejected Ortiz said. “You guys heard me talking about it when I first got here (to spring training). I was feeling good and pushing things the way I was being told. Right now, Opening Day seems like it’s not the case. The case is get me healthy for five or 5 1/2 good months. That’s what we’re looking for now.”

Injured Ortiz says heels are improving

NEW YORK — Boston designated hitter David Ortiz said he is making progress in his recovery from soreness in both heels and he hopes to play in minor league or extended spring training games next week.

Ortiz is on the 15-day disabled list, but he was in New York with the Red Sox on Monday for opening day against the Yankees. He is set to go back to the club's complex in Fort Myers, Fla., to continue his rehabilitation Thursday.

Ortiz ready to play extended spring training games

TORONTO — Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is set to play in an extended spring training game in Fort Myers, Fla., on Monday and could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket as soon as Thursday.

Ortiz has been sidelined with heel inflammation this spring after missing much of the second half of last season with a right Achilles tendon injury.

Ortiz pain-free in rehab game

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) -- When it comes to running the bases, Boston slugger David Ortiz will never be confused with Rickey Henderson.

But the fact that Ortiz was able to run without pain Thursday night was the best news the Red Sox could have hoped for in his first rehab game with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Ortiz's baserunning might have overshadowed his performance at the plate even though he was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored in Pawtucket's 5-4 victory over the Rochester Red Wings.

Boston’s Ortiz admits having oblique issue
By The Sports Xchange

Turns out, there may be more to David Ortiz’ slump than a negative newspaper column. After going 1-for-4 with a three-run homer Tuesday night in the Red Sox’ 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, Ortiz revealed that he has been dealing with tightness in the oblique muscle on his ..
