Camden Hills earns final playoff spot, faces Presque Isle in quarterfinals
Windjammers split final two regular-season game with Old Town/Orono, Messalonskee

...AUGUSTA — After a tough 18-game season, with its usual ups and down, highs and lows and exciting victories and tough-to-swallow defeats, the Camden Hills ice hockey team again has earned a berth in the regional playoffs.

And the Windjammers, led by veteran coach Karl Enroth, will face a familiar opponent in the quarterfinals, one who resides far from the Midcoast in Aroostook County — nearly 220 miles and a four-hour bus ride from Camden Hills' home and house rink.

In the final Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Camden Hills (8-10, 56.8519 points) finished sixth, while Old Town/Orono (17-1, 144.9074 points) finished first in the nine-team high school region. The top six teams qualify for the playoffs.

Thus, the Windjammers, who split their final two regular-season games (see results below), are expected to play at No. 3 Presque Isle (12-6, 86.7284 points) on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in a quarterfinal playoff encounter, time and venue to be determined.

Lewiston, Old Town/Orono hockey teams grab top seeds in North
Playoffs begin this week with quarterfinal matchups.

.... Two-time defending Class A state champion Lewiston and last year’s Class B North runner-up Old Town/Orono each enter the tournaments as the No. 1 seeds in the North. Both have byes into the regional semifinals. Edward Little and the Waterville/Winslow co-op, the No. 2 seeds in Class A North and Class B North, also have byes in the opening round of the playoffs.

In Class A North, No. 4 Bangor (11-7-0) will host No. 5 Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth (8-8-2) on Tuesday in a quarterfinal.

Cony won just one of its final six games this season (1-4-1), including two losses at the hands of Bangor during that span. Tuesday’s winner will advance to meet Lewiston (16-2-0) in the semifinals next weekend.

Lewiston takes top seed into playoffs; rivals right behind

B North
Old Town/Orono dominated its region this year to earn the No. 1 seed in B North. The Black Bears went 17-1, with the only loss coming in overtime to No. 6 Houlton/Hodgdon/Southern Aroostook/Katahdin.

The Black Bears wouldn’t have to face the Blackhawks (8-9-1) again until a potential regional semifinal. There is plenty left to be decided before then, however.
