Maine Class A Top 10: No real surprises in early going

In the early going in Class A there’s no real surprises as the tw0- time defending state champions Lewiston is out to a 3-0-0 start with wins over Scarborough, Cony/Hall-Dale, Monmouth and Edward Little. They end 2017 with a contest against Biddeford.

Falmouth remains chasing the Blue Devils as they are out to a strong start with wins over Massabesic/Bonny Eagle/Old Orchard, Scarborough and Thornton Academy. The only blemish on their record is a 3-3 tie with St. Dom’s in a back-and-forth contest. They have three games in the coming week as theywere scheduled to face Cheverus on Saturday, Biddeford on Wednesday and Scarborough on the 30th.

Cheverus remains steady at No. 3 with wins over South Portland/Waynflete/Freeport and Biddeford, but fell to Thornton Academy. After their contest against Falmouth, they return to the ice on New Year’s Day against Portland/Deering.

St. Dom’s got off to a slow start losing to Cape Elizabeth moves up to No. 4 with wins over Biddeford and Kennebunk/Wells and that tie with Falmouth. They face another rival EL to start their holiday tournament on Wednesday that will count towards the standings. The remainder of the week is exhibition games in their tournament. ... rly-going/
