Class B hockey: Martin, McCann spark York to victory

...Junior forward Spencer Pickett added a goal and three assists, as York (3-1) has scored 20 goals in its three straight wins following a season-opening 3-0 loss to Class A Biddeford.

“We need to start playing like how we finish. If we find another gear early in the game and continue it throughout; that will really help us,” Martin said. “After the Yarmouth game where we didn’t score in the first and scored four in the second, we realize that we have to bring more energy earlier in the game, so that’s a focus point.”

Cameron Roy netted the game’s first goal for the MOB (1-3) on a power play with 4:46 left in the first period, but McCann banked in a rebound of Pickett’s shot past MOB goalie Gavin Corey (22 saves) with 28 seconds left in the first. York was called for three penalties in the period and totaled eight.

“Penalties got us in the hole early and we were lucky to get out of the first period at 1-1,” York coach Jim Powers said. “We did some things in the second we’ve been working on in practice and it changed the whole tenor of the game and it really turned it around.” ... to-victory
