Re: MBR Video Broadcast: Dec 27... EL at St. Dom's

Fuksa, St. Dom's blank Edward Little

...St. Dom’s junior goalie Gaston Fuksa was sharp in net, however, and the Saints’ offense opportunistic in blanking the Red Eddies, 4-0, at Norway Savings Bank Arena.

Fuksa stopped 20 shots to earn the shutout. Will Fletcher scored two goals and notched an assist as the Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes and improved to 3-1-1.

“My style is to be a very aggressive as a goalie,” Fuksa said. “The defense did a great job blocking shots and clearing the crease.”

“Gaston did a really good job,” Saints coach Bob Parker. “He kept us in the game. And as you can tell, it doesn’t take the hardest shots to go in all the time. A goalie is going to give up some lighter ones at times.”

Lewiston takes Edward Little's best shot, pulls out 4-1 win

...
“We’ll take it,” Lewiston coach Jamie Belleau said. “It’s not perfect. It wasn’t pretty. But it’s another win, and we’ll learn from it, and we’ll move on.”

The respective coaches’ moods flipped from the beginning of the game to the end. While Belleau thought his team “came out flat,” EL coach Norm Gagne called his team’s first period “perfect.”

“I was really pleased with what we’d done,” Gagne said. “We took a penalty, but we killed it. We did a good job with that.”

The Red Eddies (4-4) were doing a good job of quieting the Blue Devils’ (9-0) offense, holding it to an uncharacteristically low five shots on goal in the first.

Lewiston boys hold off St. Dom's for 10th win

...Lewiston’s skaters held arch rival St. Dominic Academy to 12 shots, including only five in the final two periods and overcame a stellar goaltending performance by Gaston Fuksa to earn a 3-2 boys’ hockey win over the Saints in the teams’ tussle at the Norway Savings Bank Arena on Saturday.

“They have some explosive guys,” Lewiston coach Jamie Belleau said. “They’re young, but they’re good. Any time you can hold them to five shots over two periods, you’re doing something right.”

Lewiston is now 10-0 on the season, but the team’s average margin of victory in those 10 games is only 3.8 goals, and three of its past seven have been one-goal affairs.

“We need to take care of the puck better,” Belleau said. “We need to tighten things up. I applaud our kids, everyone’s coming and giving us their best, we’ve won 10 now. We need to tighten some things up.”
