Eleven seconds can change one life

...After suffering a crippling spinal cord injury in his very first college hockey game, Roy’s life took a different path. Left wheelchair-bound as a 20-year-old, he created a foundation and has become an inspiration to others facing challenges in life.

Roy will be in Vero Beach on April 8 as the keynote speaker at the Salvation Army’s Soup, Soap and Salvation Benefit Dinner at Oak Harbor Country Club.

Originally from Augusta, Maine, it was natural for Roy to dream big of playing university hockey and getting to the NHL. When he was awarded a scholarship to Boston University, everything, it seemed, was falling into place.

“I just loved hockey and when I got the scholarship to go to Boston University, it cultivated all of those childhood dreams,” he recalls. “It was all coming together.”

BOSTON (CBS) – Baseball had its “midsummer classic” this week and now hockey takes center stage Friday night for the third annual “Comm Ave Classic.”

Boston College and Boston University greats will face off at BU’s Walter Brown Arena, raising money for Compassionate Care ALS in honor of BC alum Pete Frates, and former BU player Travis Roy for his foundation.
