Greely vs Kennebunk

(Falmouth) The Greely Boys Hockey team held off Kennebunk in the Class B South Quarterfinals Tuesday night winning 5-2. The Rangers will now play Gardiner on Friday night!

Greely continues surge with quarterfinal win over Kennebunk

... “I give the guys a lot of credit the way they didn’t get too high or too low,” said longtime Greely coach Barry Mothes. “That’s so important in these kinds of games. We haven’t always followed through on that. We needed to get the game below the dots and use our speed and agility. Kennebunk is a bigger, physically mature team. Our quickness was an advantage.”

Coming of age
In a wide-open Class B South, both teams came into the game believing they had what it took to make a championship run.

Greely was 3-5 at one juncture this winter, then roared to life, closing on a 9-1 surge, capped by a 4-1 home win over Kennebunk in the regular season finale last Thursday to finish 12-6 and leapfrog the Rams into the No. 4 spot in the region.

Greely tops Kennebunk
The Rangers advance to the Class B South semifinals to face Gardiner.

... “We talked a lot about – and this was true when we played them last Thursday – that we needed to get the game down below the dots,” said Greely Coach Barry Mothes. “We wanted to use our speed and agility, and we do have some good quickness. Kennebunk is a bigger and more physical mature team, so we had to use that quickness. The first time we played them we were kind of hanging on the perimeter, and it led to getting stripped and pushed around. Fortunately, we learned our lesson.”

Cony beats Edward Little in A North quarterfinals
Hopkins, Pomerleau pot hat tricks in win.

... “This is amazing. Just awesome,” Hopkins said. “I was super pumped up. I knew this was a big game and we had tied them (in regulation) last time, so we had to really put in some goals to win. It was too close last time.”

Avery Pomerleau also scored three times for Cony, which had beaten Edward Little (5-14-0) in overtime in late January in the only regular-season meeting between the two teams. The Rams advance to meet No. 2 Bangor in the regional semifinals on Saturday at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston.

“He had a lot of moves, the puck was on his stick a lot and he just kept working hard and battling,” Cony coach Chad Foye said of Hopkins. “When you do that, good things happen for you. That’s a prime example of that.”

Scarborough knocks off Biddeford
The Red Storm score three times in the second period to advance to the regional semifinals.

... “I just thought we were really moving the puck well tonight overall,” said Smith, a senior forward. “I’m glad that I got to be on three good teams and make it this far.”

Colin Petit scored twice for Biddeford (10-9).

“We knew it was going to be a tight defensive game,” Biddeford Coach Jason Tremblay said. “I just think they played a little tighter. We just couldn’t generate enough offense.”

Scarborough outshot Biddeford, 25-16. But despite ending the opening period with a 7-3 edge in shots on net, the Red Storm entered the second down 1-0.

Pelletier's hat trick lifts St. Dom's past the Kings; Saints face Lewiston next

... The junior forward sparked the offense with a hat trick in a 4-1 victory at Norway Savings Bank Arena.

"I felt great, I had good linemates to pass to and (they) passed back to me," Pelletier said. "We worked on gives and goes, we had a lot of shots on net."

His two best goals gave St. Dom's its two insurance markers.
