York holds off Spaulding for hockey title

... "We knew we were off for quite awhile and this was perfect for us to get some competitive games in, and these were three very competitive games," Powers said. "At the end of the second (period) we talked about what it means to show character and go and seal the deal.

"Even though it got a little choppy-and we had to rely on our goaltender to stop a penalty shot-at the end of the day didn't turn on each other, they kept supporting each other and kept battling until the end," Powers added.

York junior forward Dalton McCann wrapped up a hat trick one minute into the third period to give the Wildcats a 4-2 lead, a cushion junior goalie Keenan Gamache (18 saves) protected on his way to being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
