I would think Cheverus, with 2 titles and 3 state title game appearances would be higher on the list. While they have been average the last two years, the previous 8 years they were among the best programs around. I'd put them around 5th-7th.

I also think Yarmouth's 2 titles and 3 state game appearances would put them ahead of Foxcroft.

Just my opinions.

Cheverus certainly should be in the top 5. They won State Championships in 2010 & 2011 and lost to T.A. (the eventual State Champions) in the Western Maine Championship game in 2012. That loss snapped their 34 game winning streak which remains longest winning streak in Maine class A football.

Cool topic. I definitely think TA and BE should be at the top, but man, Cheverus deserves some mention too. Obviously, the "what have you done for me lately" mentality matters a lot. Cheverus is not as strong in that category, but when I was in school from 06-10...no program was better.

Windham deserves some mention as well. The Eagles are always there and although they only have one state title, I believe they have consistently been a top ten team in Maine.

If we're looking at the last 10 years, Mountain Valley has 2 titles. They had a rapid decline over the last 5 years and are currently slowly rebuilding their way back in Class D, so maybe that keeps them from the Top 10 programs overall. But they were one of the state's model programs under Coach Aylward a decade ago.

Cheverus is without a doubt a Top 5 program based on it's body of work over the last 10 years, even if they're not one at the present time.

I think Cheverus should be a top ten. I didn't give them enough credit earlier. Mountain Valley was a power until 2010. The bottom fell out and they haven't been relevant since. Can be given consideration over a few mentioned as tied for #10.

I'd rank them similar to Winslow. Winslow wasn't overly relevant during most of the first half of the time period we're looking at; then 2012 came and they've been a major power with two titles. Mountain Valley's has had pretty much the exact opposite arc, but both won a pair of titles during that time period. Even the titles are similar: one in absolutely dominating fashion, and one that was closer. Winslow did make 2 finals outside of that and MV just one, so I'd keep the Raiders slightly above. But there are some similarities.

My first instinct: Maine Central Institute. Also: Cheverus was not very good for a long time until 2009 (and may have entering that zone again). And I'd throw Cony into the mix, too...they had trouble winning 2 games a season a decade ago and are well past that level now.

I may be a little biased but I would think Yarmouth would rank a little higher on the list. Their first 2 years as a MPA sanctioned football team was 2007 and 2008 where they had just 1 win. Year #3, 2009, they discovered how to win and went 8-3; losing to eventual State Champ Dirigo in the Class C Western Maine finals. The 2010 and 2011 seasons they went 24-0 for back-to-back State Championships. For 2012 and 2013 they went to the Class C Western Maine quarterfinals and for 2014 they went to the Class C Western Maine semifinals. They got back to the State Championship game in 2015 with an 11-1 record, losing to a strong Winslow team. The last 2 years, 2016 and 2017 they went to the Class C Southern Maine quarterfinals.
