MS game of the week: Messalonskee-Falmouth
Plenty is at stake in this big crossover game

...Here’s a look at the matchup:

When: 6:30 tonight.
Where: Falmouth High School

Messalonskee coach Brad Bishop on Falmouth: “They have a very, very good quarterback. He’s probably the best quarterback we’ve seen. They’re a very athletic team. We’re going to expect a battle.”

Falmouth coach John Fitzsimmons on Messalonskee: “It’s always a challenge to play a team for the first time. They’re kind of a cross between Marshwood and Kennebunk. It should be a stiff challenge for us. They have a very well-planned offensive scheme with players who can execute their running game. I’m impressed with how well all their kids execute their responsibilities.”

Falmouth stifles Messalonskee for another key victory

FALMOUTH—Falmouth’s offensive brilliance needs no introduction.

The Yachtsmen’s defense, meanwhile, often gets overlooked or maligned, but when that unit is clicking as well, Falmouth has what it takes to be one of the best teams in Class B.

Friday evening on their home field, the Yachtsmen hosted Messalonskee in a crossover battle of 3-1 teams and while the offense was once again potent, with the game hanging in the balance, it was the defense that stole the show.

The Eagles marched 70 yards to start the game and took a 6-0 lead on a 7-yard touchdown run by senior Alden Balboni, but the extra point was blocked.

Falmouth rolls after halftime in win over Messalonskee
Falmouth quarterback Jack Bryant throws three TD passes and rushes for another.

...“I was a little nervous at the beginning (because it was close), but we came back after the half and really shut them down,” said wide receiver Griffin Aube, who finished with seven catches for 59 yards. “They came in here and played well, but we were ready for them.”

Falmouth quarterback Jack Bryant passed for three touchdowns and ran for another. He finished 17 of 27 for 205 yards and added 81 yards on the ground.

“They’re a good team,” Messalonskee Coach Brad Bishop said. “They were good at what they had to do tonight.

“They really spread us out (in the passing game). We have young kids, and that was tough to defend.”
