Gardiner football comes up short to York
Turnovers and penalties play big part in Tigers' loss.

...“It wasn’t really designed, but once I saw the hole, I decided to take it,” Gundlah said. “I wasn’t really thinking. I wanted to get in.”

The Tigers had taken a 14-10 lead late in the third quarter when Tanner Hebert caught a swing pass from Cole Heaberlin in the left flat and scored from 17 yards out.

Gardiner committed eight penalties, three that killed drives inside the 15-yard line and another that wiped out a 70-yard scoring run by Cam Michaud in the fourth quarter.

“We didn’t start playing until the second half again,” Gardiner coach Joe White said. “We’ve just got to get over that hump. It’s the little things. I hate to reflect on the past but there is a pattern here of that.”

York:: returns home with two wins

York returns home with two wins

...“The bus rides have been good the past couple of weeks,” York head football coach Randy Small laughed before Monday’s practice. “We have a lot of improving to do, that’s for sure. We were aggressive last week, especially defensively, now we have to turn that aggressiveness into playing smart football.”

York is scheduled to play host to Class B South school Noble on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

“We’ve seen them on film a couple of times,” Small said. “They have good size up front; kind of looks like a bunch of tight ends across the line, athletic looking kids.”

Knights gamble early, fade late in rout

...York scored three more touchdowns in the opening quarter, four touchdowns in the second quarter and rolled to a 61-7 victory over Class B South Noble.

“That (fourth down stop) gave us a short field and a lot of momentum,” York head coach Randy Small said. “We scored quickly, jumped on them right away again with a turnover and it’s 14-0 before we get out of the gates; that kind of turns the tide (of a game) real quick. Real quick.”

Smith said not picking up the first down there was tough, but he thought it was worth the risk at that point of the game.

“It was the opening drive, we just started the game and we just needed one yard,” Smith said. “It shouldn’t be tough to get. We just didn’t get a good drive off the ball, but I would probably do the same thing again. If we keep the ball and make it, we get another set of downs. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.”
