Marshwood:: Unbeaten Hawks pull away from Falmouth

Postby Fosters » Fri Sep 22, 2017 3:58 am

When and where: Friday (7 p.m.) at Marshwood High School
Team records: Lawrence is 2-1 in Class B North; Marshwood is 3-0 in Class B South
Last week: Lawrence beat Hampden, 63-6; Marshwood beat Biddeford, 35-21

Preview: The Hawks will play their second crossover game when they entertain a good Lawrence team that was firing on an cylinders last week. The Bulldogs are diverse on offense, with Braden Ballard an experienced QB and Tyler Larouche a hard-running FB. ... The Hawks will welcome back three starters — OL/DL Seth Aumann, and LBs Matt Goodwin and James Thompson — to the lineup. They’re coming off an excellent defensive performance that saw three interceptions, a fumble recovery and a stop on downs against Biddeford.

Was at this ....total mismatch....35-0 at half....Marshwood takes 2nd half kick off and drives to score making it 42-0 just into 3rd quarter....at this point, ever the class act, Rotsko pulls his starters on both O and D....running time throughout 2nd half...starters played little more than half....will share more detailed thoughts on the morrow....

Marshwood starts with a bang, routs Lawrence

Marshwood starts with a bang, routs Lawrence
Hawks score 35 points in 1st half and cruise to victory.

...Lawrence answered with its best drive of the game, but Taran blocked Christian Adams’ 30-yard field goal try. The Hawks then went on a six-play, 98-yard drive, taking a 14-0 lead when Sam Cartmill caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Glidden on a halfback pass.

“One of the things that caught up with us is their team speed. It’s hard to mimic that in practice,” Lawrence coach John Hersom said.

The Hawks pulled away with three touchdowns in the second quarter. Cartmill caught a 35-yard Tommy Springer pass on fourth and 11 to help the Hawks to a 21-0 lead. With 3:42 left in the second, Springer scored on a 7-yard bootleg run.

Marshwood continues its perfect storm

HAWKS 42, BULLDOGS 0: Marshwood continues its perfect storm

...The Hawks are a perfect 4-0 in Class B South after a crossover win that showed off both an air attack that’s fairly new and a defense that’s shaping into a force to be reckoned with.

“I think we’re playing great football,” said Marshwood coach Alex Rotsko. “I like our approach. Kids are working hard, trying to get better every day. We play hard; we’ve just got to be playing a little smarter, maybe. Other than that, I couldn’t be happier with how the kids are working and approaching it.

Glidden, after sitting out last week’s win against Biddeford, rushed for 101 yards on seven carries, in addition to tossing the score. Springer was 4-of-7 for 51 yards, a touchdown and a pick.

Whack, hopefully this doesn't become a trend. Thursday at the Lawrence freshman game a friend asked, "how do you think Lawrence will do against Marshwood". I replied, "I've watched a bit of Marshwood hudl and they appear to have exceptional team speed". Whack, you know it's sometimes difficult to see the speed on film. More, I noticed, Marshwood's footwork, agility, and power. It's clear Marshwood kids put time into weightroom, but also clear they utilize agility ladders, cones, hurdles, and incorporate plyometrics.

Whack, I think it was browardhandicapper who made a point here earlier this summer....he noted the availability of training facilities in southern Maine. Whack, not to make excuses but the rural districts in the North are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to training as a team. Some kids must travel almost 30 minutes to get to a gym to train consistently in weight room, never mind agility and conditioning.

Think most of us could see early on there were at least four teams from B South that were a step ahead of their Northern counterparts. Hopefully this doesn't become a trend. Look forward to Marshwood- Kennebunk,

A great deal of that Marshwood roster is made up of wrestlers.

@ Whack, depth speaking B South runs circles around A North as well this year IMO....How do you think Edward Little would be fairing in B South right now.?

Would get by Greely possibly?

Football outside of York and Cumberland county simply have a lot of work and catching up to do. The depth gap with good competitive teams appears to be growing....
