Parmenter brothers give Hornets a big edge, each in their own way

... "He's too laid-back for my taste and I'm too aggressive for his," Riley said. "We make it work, though."

It works very well for the unbeaten Hornets. They line up side-by-side on the offensive line, Aidan at left tackle, Riley at left guard, and are both standouts on the defense, Aiden at tackle, Riley at linebacker.

Both are in the tradition of great Leavitt linemen in recent history such as Jon Pirrucello and Matt Pellerin who helped power the Hornets to state championships in classes B and C. Those players and teams served as inspiration for the brothers.

"I saw the 2009 team play and saw the 2013 team play," Aidan said. "Those were always our heroes. We'd always pretend to be (Matt) Powell or (Matt) Child or (Levi) Morin or Pellerin."

Leavitt:: hold off Raiders in battle of unbeatens

Hornets hold off Raiders in battle of unbeatens

...It was clear after each team's first possession that the game was going come down to something unexpected. That something turned out be sophomore Eli Lind's kicking leg.

Lind's 26-yard field goal late in the first half turned out to be the difference in a 17-14 Leavitt victory on a cloudless, mid-80 degree Saturday afternoon.

"I've practiced a lot, so I knew I could do it," Lind said. "It's a team effort. You've got to have a good snap (Cole Melanson), a good line and a good holder (Bryce Hudson). When you kick it in the middle of a game, you don't know it's going to come down to that."

Leavitt holds off Fryeburg Academy
The unbeaten Hornets get a test but send Fryeburg to its first loss of the season, 17-14.

...Leavitt then spent six minutes putting together another impressive scoring drive, going 68 yards in 14 plays. Albert finished it with a 6-yard pass to Bowen.

“We would’ve liked to have been able to get off the field a little bit more today – especially on a hot day like this,” said Fryeburg Coach David Turner. “Especially on a hot day like this, and against a team with weapons all over the field like Leavitt, drives like that can really wear you out.

“Our guys made some nice adjustments after those first couple drives.”

Leavitt stays undefeated in Class C South with 17-14 win over Fryeburg Academy

(Fryeburg ME) On a very hot afternoon it was crucial to stay cool. (I enjoyed the shade of pine trees before the game and during halftime.)

The Fryeburg Academy Raiders (3-1) lost their cool in the second quarter and in the process set up visiting Leavitt (4-0) for what turned out to be a decisive field goal.

The final was 17-14 with all the points coming in the first half and Leavitt is now the only undefeated team in Division C South.

Leavitt football topples Yarmouth

...That stiff defense, coupled with big plays courtesy of an incredible performance from the backfield, led the Hornets to a convincing 44-0 road win on Friday.

“Really, it's the O-line,” Leavitt coach Michael Hathaway said. “We have some skill guys that can get out in the open, whether it's run or pass … but it really goes down to that offensive line.”

Running back Bryce Hudson also had nothing but praise for the big men up front.

“The line did great,” Hudson said. “They did exactly what they were supposed to do. They're just a great line to run behind and it's unbelievable running behind them.”
