Gardiner football falls to Cape Elizabeth

Postby zingervid » Wed Sep 06, 2017 5:24 pm

Fans,
Gardiner moved the game from Friday to Saturday night as the Gardiner community will be paying respects to our wonderful, student-athlete Taby Hembree on Friday at 4pm
Therefore, we will have a doubleheader for you on Saturday as we'll have Yarmouth at Oak Hill at 1:30 and head back home to bring you the Cape at Gardiner game at 7pm. We also have Deering at TA Friday night.

Gardiner football gets a big test from Cape Elizabeth

Postby CM Newspapers » Fri Sep 08, 2017 6:07 am

KJ Game of the Week: Gardiner football gets a big test from Cape Elizabeth
Game should serve as an early indicator of how well Tigers will fare in Class C.

...Gardiner coach White on Cape Elizabeth: “I know that they’re well-coached. … They execute well, they don’t make a lot of mistakes and they typically have your prototypical best athletes, whether it’s skill or on the line. Those guys have great technique.”

Cape Elizabeth coach Filieo on Gardiner: “This year’s team has got some speed and quickness, and some athletes out there, kids that like to fly around. Good lefty quarterback, a nice big, tall tight end, basketball-type tight end. They played inspired against Morse last Friday night.”

Three keys for Cape Elizabeth:

• Do what you do.

Tigers keep up but Capers hold.

...Heaberlin completed 8 of 16 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, but also threw three interceptions, one of those a tipped pass and another in desperation time in the final minute.

Gardiner adjusted to Cape’s running game, led by fullback Ryan Weare and tailback Jack Glanville, both seniors. Glanville rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns in the first half in last week’s win, but was held to 85 yards on 19 carries Saturday night. Weare finished with 53 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

Glanville made his presence felt in other areas. He returned a kickoff 65 yards to set up Cape’s second score and picked off two of Heaberlin’s passes.

Gardiner was too much of a football town to be down for long....I think they will come back and be a major C power in coming years...

Big game for Cape coming this week vs Wells
wonder how this one plays out...
don't think it will be much different than it has been over the last few years ....a good physical game.
could be the best crossover game that will be played this year.
