Kennebunk overwhelms Messalonskee in driving rain
Rams ride big plays to take control of Class B crossover game.

...Kennebunk’s Derek Smith returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown and teammate Jake Littlefield broke off a 65-yard scoring run on the second play of the second half, lifting the Rams to a 32-7 win over Messalonskee at Veterans Field. Littlefield, a senior fullback, rushed for a pair of touchdowns in the win.

Kennebunk, which played for the Class B state championship last season, improved to 2-0. Messalonskee, which beat reigning state champ Brunswick in its opener, fell to 1-1.

“That’s a good team. That’s a veteran team, and they’re very good in the front seven and front eight on offense and defense,” Messalonskee coach Brad Bishop said. “I’m not discouraged. … Sometimes you have to take your lumps and move on. That’s what we have to do.”

Kennebunk wins shootout against Falmouth
The Rams take a clash of unbeaten Class B South teams, 51-34.

...Dante DeLorenzo helped lead the Rams (3-0) with three first-half touchdowns – a 4-yard catch and runs of 5 yards and 1 yard. Quarterback Tripp Bush threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a score.

“We scored a lot of points – I don’t know how dominating it was,” Kennebunk Coach Joe Rafferty said. “We knew they were going to be a challenge. They have an excellent quarterback, and he has a great core of receivers.”

For Falmouth (2-1), quarterback Jack Bryant totaled five touchdowns – three passing and two rushing – and threw for 247 yards.

Kennebunk rolls past Brunswick, 35-0
Quarterback Tripp Bush tosses three touchdowns and Kennebunk cruises in a rematch of last year's Class B state championship.

...The teams are going in different directions. Brunswick (0-5) has only three returning starters.

Tripp Bush of the Rams threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns, two for more than 60 yards. Cole Hoffman and Christian Putnam led a defense that limited the Dragons to 128 yards.

“We knew they were a great team coming in but we were ready for them,” said Bush. “It had always (been) in the back of our minds to get revenge.

“We really executed on everything today, which was great. We preached that in practice, that we’ve got to execute.”

Kennebunk:: Rams roll to 37-0 win over Eagles

Rams roll to 37-0 win over Eagles

...In a season where the Rams eventually advanced to the Class B state title game, longtime head coach Joe Rafferty remembered the struggles his Kennebunk team had that day, a last second field goal giving the Rams a hard-fought 24-21 victory.

“It was one of the toughest games that we had all season,” said Rafferty after his Rams methodically ran past the Eagles this time around, 37-0, Friday night. “I remembered it. I can’t say they did. Those things stick with me forever.”

Behind the running of backs Dante DeLorenzo and Derek Smith, the Rams took control, especially in the first half when Kennebunk ran 41 plays for 305 yards while carrying a 24-0 lead to the intermission.

“I see Kennebunk and Marshwood as being the two toughest teams in our league,” said LaPlante, whose Eagles fell to 2-4. “They are well-coached, no nonsense, not dirty, and just play football the way it is supposed to be played.”
