Messalonskee shuts out defending Class B champs
The Eagles defeat Brunswick, 23-0, in the season opener for both teams.

...The Eagles scored their three touchdowns in the second half to break open what had been a defensive struggle.

“They were physical up front,” Brunswick Coach Dan Cooper said. “We just weren’t good enough to keep getting first downs. We made a mistake here and there. We just weren’t consistent enough.”

The Dragons beat the Eagles twice last season on their way to winning the state championship, but lost 22 players to graduation and are rebuilding.

Messalonskee also is rebuilding.

Messalonskee tops Skowhegan in PTC B shootout
Austin Pelletier rushes for 7 touchdowns and 341 yards to carry Eagles.

...Pelletier ran for seven touchdowns and 341 yards on 33 carries, leading the Eagles through a wild fourth quarter and to a 57-42 victory over Skowhegan at Veterans Field Friday night.

“I think if you’re a fan, you got your money’s worth tonight,” Messalonskee coach Brad Bishop said. “It’s tough to watch this type of game as a coach, because I don’t think anybody had any answers.”

Both teams moved the ball at will, using polar opposite methods to do it. Pelletier was at the helm of Messalonskee’s steamrolling ground attack, which churned out a whopping 506 yards on 48 carries, while Christopher completed 43 of 60 passes for 435 yards and five touchdowns, hitting Barnes 18 times for 202 yards and two scores, while leading Skowhegan’s aerial assault.
