Marshwood overwhelms Skowhegan, 55-12
The Hawks jump out early and never look back.

...Glidden led a balanced Marshwood attack with 116 yards on eight carries, and also had an 8-yard touchdown catch from Springer. Bryant ran for 96 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns. Springer ran for 79 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown run.

He also threw for 62 yards.

Skowhegan did move the ball, but three interceptions – two inside the Hawks’ 2-yard line – killed drives.

“Offensively, we just didn’t finish,” Skowhegan Coach Ryan Libby said.

Hunter Washburn ran for 62 yards and caught four passes for 46 yards for Skowhegan. Washburn’s 3-yard touchdown run early in the fourth put Skowhegan on the board.

Marshwood improves to 2-0 with 47-14 win at Greely
Quarterback Tommy Springer scores two touchdowns for the Hawks.

...Quarterback Tommy Springer and running back Kyle Glidden each accounted for two touchdowns for the Hawks, who improved to 2-0 while Greely fell to 0-2.

“That’s always the way we do things – it’s nice to get the ball distributed,” Marshwood Coach Alex Rotsko said. “Tommy threw the ball very well and that opens things up. Our receivers caught the ball and did a nice job blocking, as well.”

Greely quarterback Nick Male threw a touchdown pass to Nolan Anderson, and running back Joey Casella scored Greely’s other touchdown.

“We’re really young and inexperienced in a lot of spots,” Greely Coach David Higgins said. “We lost our quarterback last week, and (Nick Male) had to step up and lead the whole offense. He did a great job.”

Marshwood holds off Biddeford in Class B South showdown
The Hawks improve to 3-0 after a 35-21 win, handing the Tigers their first loss.

...In the fourth quarter, Justin Bryant scored from 49 and 25 yards.

“We had some big plays,” Marshwood Coach Alex Rotsko said. “They’re in man coverage, and counters are going to be successful if you execute.”

Those four plays accounted for 198 of Marshwood’s 302 rushing yards. Taran ended up with 130 yards on only five carries. Bryant rushed 11 times for 105 yards.

Both teams made their share of errors. Marshwood (3-0) was penalized 11 times for 95 yards. Biddeford (2-1) lost four turnovers, including a costly fumble in the third quarter.

HAWKS 35, TIGERS 21: Defense stands tall as Marshwood stays unbeaten

...SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — If there was a point for players on an undermanned Marshwood High School football team to hang their heads on Friday, it was at halftime.

Leading by two touchdowns thanks to a pair of long touchdown runs from Joe Taran, it watched Biddeford crowbar its way back into the game by driving 80 yards late in the second quarter and punching in a touchdown in the final seconds.

“At that point, I thought we were in real good shape,” said Biddeford coach Brian Curit. “They were hunched over a little bit. But they responded and we didn’t.”

According to the Portsmouth Herald article (http://www.seacoastonline.com/sports/20 ... tenAnybody), Marshwood was missing four starters. Anybody (Mainesportsfan123) know why?

Marshwood is big up front and the Biddeford defense played well besides a few big plays. They were on the field for a long time. The play calling on the offensive side for Biddeford was below average at best. Their offense is predictable. They have a ton of great skilled position players that do not get utilized correctly on the offensive side of the ball. Too bad because this team has great, tough players but poor play calling is going to have a huge impact on their success. Time to open it up and let the players play.

Newbie lives up to his name...how a team executes a play is far more important than what the play is.....Wolfy won a few games basically running a half dozen plays....but running them well....

Speed....The base of Wolfgrams offense was very simple, he rarely attacked the SE side of the field. Isolation (Rip), Toss, Bucksweep, Guard Trap, and an occasional Tackle Trap Counter were it. They executed well because of the simplicity of it all. He was a much better defensive coach in my opinoion although his offensive lines in the early years at Gardiner were tremendous.
