Bangor football eyes return to old-school approach in deep ‘A’ North ranks

BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor High School football program boasts a strong tradition, with six state championships since 1973 and appearances in the Class A title game as recently as 2009 and 2010.

Returning to a more competitive status after a rare winless campaign last fall begins with a return to what has worked in the past, according to Rams head coach Alan Mosca.

“It’s very positive and very fundamentally driven,” said Bangor’s third-year leader of his team’s preseason focus. “We’ve really just gone back to basics with everything and the kids have been very receptive.

“It’s a carryover from the summer. We had a great summer of creating and building enthusiasm for the love of the game.”

Journal Tribune Football Preview : Determined Vigue looks to restore Massabesic winning tradition

...fter enduring a winless 2016 season, Vigue said this year's Massabesic squad is going to compete hard and is hungry to turn things around.

“We have a lot of players this year that care about the game and have put a lot of time into it,” he said. “We're really taking this very seriously from what I’ve seen so far.”

According to Vigue, that determination and hard-nosed attitude in practice is a significant difference from past seasons.

“Everybody knows we’ve had some tough years,” he said. “But it has instilled a drive in us that says ‘enough.’ We’re tired of losing by 40. They know that they have to be the change.”

Third-year Massabesic Coach Brooks Bowen agrees.
