Bucksport Coach Sankey Tops LTC Wins List

The Little Ten Football Conference begins its 66th season Friday and the year begins with a new coach at the top of the charts in the all-time wins catagory – Bucksport’s Joel Sankey.

Sankey begins his 23rd season as head coach of the Golden Bucks with 147 wins, passing former Foxcroft Academy coach Paul Withee’s 146.
Sankey and his Bucks have played in four state title games with a championship win 2004.

Back from basic, Mtn. Valley's White ready for football

...Mountain Valley coach Pat Mooney happily endorsed White missing summer football for boot camp. And he had little doubt he would excel in training.

"He's tough and he's intense," Mooney said. "When he came up as a freshman, he was probably 115 pounds soaking wet, but he hit harder than any of our linebackers," Mooney said. "It was unbelievable. We'd put him on scrub D against the varsity offense and he'd come up from the corner positions like a linebacker and make some good hits."

White broke his arm early in his sophomore season but returned as the starting cornerback for his junior year. His physical presence helped the Falcons to their best record in five years (4-5) and a playoff berth.

Looking to maximize that presence, White, who also plays on special teams, will be moving from reserve running back to starting tight end this year.

BDN Class D North Football preview:

Foxcroft returns ‘home’ to battle ‘D’ rivals Bucksport, Mattanawcook

Over the last four years, Foxcroft Academy football coach Danny White has welcomed the challenges playing in Class C North had presented his Ponies.

This fall, with its drop to Class D, Foxcroft is going home, so to speak, to the LTC.

And with that move to Class D comes the return of longtime rivalries with teams such as Bucksport and Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln who, along with Foxcroft, are expected to be among the better teams in the region this season.

“We’re very excited to get back and play some of the schools that we had played for decades,” said White, whose team went 4-4 in Class C last year and qualified for postseason play.
