Weeks 1 + 2 are in the books. Playoffs will be next sunday july 23. teams will play 2 exhibtion games between 5-630 then compete in a single elimination tournament in all 3 divisions from 630-830.
Leavitt, Cony and Oak Hill will play round robin middle school games 5-8pm.
Skowhegan has been the class of the league so far going 8-0. IMO they have the best core of receivers and Christopher at QB has a good arm to distribute the ball. Leavitt and Lewiston are both 6-2 and Cony is 5-3 to round out the top 4 division 1. Leavitt has a strong armed QB in Albert, a great WR in Bowen and a talented but very young core of receivers including two 6'5 soph. TE's in Morin and Jordan. Our numbers have been great with 3 high school groups and 2 middle school groups last week. Lewiston has been solid and have a dynamic WR/DB in Jackson and their JV team went 4-0 last week. They play very hard on both sides of the ball for Coach Nicholas. Cony has a couple of QB's with good arms. I think one is a soph. and one a senior. As usual they have several wideouts to spread the ball to and have played very well despite not having Roddy. Brunswick has a lot of good athletes and usually plays their best the last weekend. Typical of Cooper teams, they are energetic and scrappy. They have used a couple of qb's as well I think a senior and sophomore. Nadeau has been a solid WR/DB for them. Mt. Ararat has been competitive in their games and Mt. Blue has good energy and physicality under coach Quiron. Coach Sterling has a younger group from EL as they also play in the Southern Maine league with their Varsity. Scott looks like a good young WR for them in the future and the group has played hard vs. older kids. Oxford Hills also has a younger group as they also play in the same league in Southern Maine. Coach Soehren and Ouefiero's sons appear to be on the path to outperforming their dads. In seriousness, Soehren from Ox. Hills, Hathaway from Leavitt and Rawstron from Oak Hill are 3 freshmen QB's with high potential.
In Division 2, Dirigo and Oak Hill sit atop the standings. Dirigo has 4 or 5 very good athletes including Chiasson. Oak Hill has played 2 QB's as well and Bailey is a big athletic receiver for them and has been a force at FS on defense. Oak Hill also had jv and middle school teams last week. Win/Mon, Lisbon, Mt.Valley and Spruce have played pretty evenly in the middle of the division. Mt. Valley and Lisbon both have good numbers, fielding 2 teams last week. Win/Mon had a great week 1 going 4-0, Mt.Valley had a nice week 2 going 3-1. Spruce was missing their basketball guys last week, but they have an athletic crew when they are all there. Maranacook under Coach Polky, and Lake Region also both picked up a couple of wins last week.
seedings for playoffs are as follows:
division 1
1. SKOWHEGAN
2. LEAVITT
3. LEWISTON

5. BRUNSWICK

Thanks coach for posting all the great information on the event !!

For football coaches and players, 7-on-7s a mix of work and play
Laid-back passing league both about having fun and honing execution for fall

...But on the other, with coaches watching each play from behind the line of scrimmage, score being kept and a playoff awaiting at the end of the third and final day of play, it’s just as clear that the league is grooming the competitiveness and execution that will pay off for each of the 17 participating varsity teams in the fall.

“We’re here to sort of get things sorted out for this year,” Cony coach B.L. Lippert said. “We try to rotate and sub as often as we can, we don’t want to have kids come and waste their time on a Friday or Sunday night, but we’re trying to get better and we’re trying to figure out who improved over the long offseason.”

“We’re trying to have fun while we run our system,” Oak Hill coach Stacen Doucette said. “It’s not really about who you play, you’re really playing yourself. And what I mean by that is you’re trying to learn your plays, you’re trying to understand where to stand, and that doesn’t really matter who you play. You’re trying to educate your players.”
