Cape Elizabeth catapults past Spruce Mountain

... MJ Convey had a pair of touchdown runs for the Capers in the third quarter to cap off the scoring. Cape Elizabeth accumulated 254 yards on the ground, while its defense held Spruce Mountain to just 99.

"If you win the line of scrimmage, typically you win the day," Filieo said. "So we challenged those guys and I thought that they responded well."

"They were much more physical than we were," Polky said "I thought we played well, for the most part, against the passing game. It's when they started pounding it on us. We couldn't rise up to the physicality of the game and the speed of the game."

Mtn. Valley handles Lake Region

... "They came out fired up," Mountain Valley coach Pat Mooney said. "They were ready to play. They play tough, they have good, physical offensive line and it took us a quarter to get our bearings. Once we got our wind, we turned it around."

Newman scored his first TD of the game to even the score after one quarter, and the Falcons soared into halftime with a 20-7 lead after Todd McKellick and Jacob Blanchard rumbled into the end zone.

Freeport blanks Gray-NG, continues resurgence

FREEPORT—Stop me if you’ve heard this before.

A Freeport boys’ team learns how to win games, comes from nowhere and goes on to steal headlines.

While it’s fartfetched to think that football can follow the script of its baseball brethren, the Falcons are penning quite a story on the gridiron this fall.

One year after failing to win a single game, Freeport came into the 2016 campaign full of optimism and through three games this fall, the Falcons’ have proved to be very competitive.

Freeport blanks Gray-New Gloucester

... or St. Pierre and his coaching staff, it is night and day this year compared to the 2015 season, when low numbers and injuries made for a long campaign.

“You come into practice and the kids have a positive attitude, not, ‘We’re going to get to Saturday and get our butts kicked,’” St. Pierre said. “We are going to fight hard and give ourselves a chance. If we do our jobs, we can win. We have a goal to get to, and the kids are working toward that.”

For Gray-New Gloucester coach Mark Renna and the Patriots, who host Spruce Mountain on Friday, mistakes have haunted his team.
