Winslow:: stays unbeaten,tough test with win over Dexter

Black Raiders improve to 5-0 on young season.

...“They’re a really focused group,” Winslow coach Mary Beth Bourgoin said. “They come into practice every day and already have things they want to work on. They are definitely determined and they’re taking it one game at a time which is what I like.”

The Black Raiders (4-0) had a dozen reserves for the game and Bourgoin went to them early and often, although her starters got some needed playing time early in the second half.

They got a pair of goals from freshman Bodhi Littlefield and one each from Ward, Silver Clukey, Weslee Littlefield, Anna Petrovic and Abby Washburn. Mataya Austin scored for Waterville (0-3-1).

“I think we’re playing really well,” Ward said. “We’re all gelling. Our communication is so key. And I think our depth has helped us out.” ... aterville/

Black Raiders get 3-1 win by converting penalty corners.

...The lone difference between the two this time was Winslow’s ability to convert two late penalty corners, which lifted the Black Raiders to a 3-1 victory.

“It doesn’t matter our records, it doesn’t matter how we’re playing in other games,” Winslow coach Mary Beth Bourgoin said. “They’re always very aggressive. They have as much community pride as we do. They’re always up for this game like we were.”

Weslee Littlefield scored the go-ahead goal for Winslow with 12 minutes, 27 seconds left to play when she blasted a shot to the back of the cage after taking a pass from Haley Ward. ... -lawrence/

Black Raiders pass yet another tough test with win over Dexter.

...ilver Clukey scored just over five minutes into the game when she knocked in a rebound off Anna Petrovic’s shot following a penalty corner. The scored stayed that way until the half, despite a 7-0 edge in shots for the Raiders. Goalie Amanda Haskell (nine saves) kept the score close with several strong saves. After winning several one-sided games this season. Dexter coach Margaret Veazie was happy to play a strong team.

“It’s a great thing,” she said. “They’re a great team and we need the competition. “They’re very strong and big-hitting. We shied away from it really bad, but they’re good, good athletes.”

Senior Natalie Greene and Weslee Littlefield scored in the final 10 minutes of the second half to put the game away. Greene scored on a tough angle right-to-left shot following a penalty corner to make it 2-0. ... -unbeaten/
