York runs win streak to 57 games, 3-1 over Yarmouth

...Both York and Yarmouth entered the contest unbeaten after two games.

“I definitely thought it was going to be a competitive game,” York coach Barb Marois said. “Their program has been strong the last four or five years, it has grown and has become a real challenge for us whenever see them.”

The game was a rematch of last year’s Class B South championship game.

Bouchard knocked home a rebound of her own shot, giving York a 1-0 lead with 14:10 left in the first half. The Wildcats scored the next two goals, both coming in opening four minutes of the second half.

58 straight! York rallies to extend its remarkable win streak

...ork (4-0) trailed for the first time this year Tuesday after Deschenes found Paige Davis for a goal with 8:48 left in the first half, the play materializing off a penalty corner to give Lake Region a 1-0 lead. York seniors Sydney Bouchard and Jessa Smith responded with goals roughly one minute apart in the second half to give the Wildcats the lead.

“I’m not going to make any excuses; I don’t think we played well,” York coach Barb Marois said. “I don’t think we defended particularly well and they had some situations where they were able to get some clean shots, which you can’t do.

“But I’m proud of the girls for responding and coming back in the second half.”

York shuts out Freeport
The Wildcats improve to 8-1 with a 3-0 victory.

...It was the Wildcats’ fourth win since a 2-0 loss to Greely on Sept. 14 – their first defeat since the 2013 state championship game.

This year’s team is a work in progress, but still formidable.

“There are just little things we need to fix and make some adjustments on,” York Coach Barb Marois said, “and those little things are going to make a big difference, I think.”

The last time these teams met was in last season’s Class B South quarterfinals when the Wildcats (8-1) ran away with an 8-0 win.
