Led by Trottier-Braun, St. Dom's puts up resounding win over Sacopee Valley

...Monday was no different. She scored six times in St. Dom’s 11-0 victory over Sacopee Valley in a WMC field hockey game.

She doesn’t have a specific reason why they come one right after another.

"I just put a lot of effort into they way I play, intensity, never give up on that ball, put it in the back of the net," Trottier-Braun said.

Sacopee Valley coach Jaci Ritter took positives from the game. She reminded her players that they lost 16-0 in last year’s season opener and how they got frustrated early on in that game. In this defeat, she liked that her team didn’t stop competing despite another lopsided score.

St. Dominic Academy flies past Freeport

...Freeport, entering the contest with a 5-0-1 mark, controlled play against unbeaten and untied St. Dom’s. The Falcons’ pressure led to a pair of penalty corners and opportunities to score the game’s first goal.

Then, the Saints gained possession and transitioned to offense in a blink of an eye. Moments later, senior Hannah Trottier-Braun scored for St. Dom’s.

Then she scored again. And again. And again. Trottier-Braun rattled home four goals in five minutes in the first half to lead the Saints to a 9-0 victory, and a 7-0 record.

“As soon as we score, the momentum changes for us,” St. Dom's coach Brian Kay said. “Today, we scored some great goals, had some beautiful corners and we worked the short passing game. We just seemed to settle into our game and the results were there.”

St. Dom's field hockey flying high

...This year, that same group of girls is on a mission, not only to avenge last year's loss in the regional final, but to finally earn for the school its first Class C state title.

"Being so close, last year to lose in overtime and knowing we could have been state champs," St. Dom's field hockey coach Brian Kay said, "the girls still have that feeling that they want to get back there and finish it."

The team is off to a mind-boggling start trying to reach that goal.

Callie Samson has had better than a front-row seat for all of the teams' remarkable runs — she's the lone player to compete for both squads in all four seasons.
