Windjammer Gordon earns All-State status

...All-State recipients — along with the Miss Maine Field Hockey winner — will be honored at the Maine Field Hockey Association banquet on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.

Gordon had one goal and four assists this season for the Windjammers, was named to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference’s second team and was co-most valuable player of the team this season.

Camden Hills coach Lindsey Clement — who also coached Gordon during her first two years of field hockey at Camden-Rockport Middle School — said her skills “have been fostered through deliberate practice and preparation [and] her insatiable appetite to be a better player has made her successful on the field.”

“Megan has spent many hours of her own time committed to refining her level of play,” the coach said. “She is the first player on the track during the summer for interval and strength training, as she is always dedicated to showing up ready for tryouts. Her quick-stick skills and her ability to read the opponent's offensive movement, earned her a starting right mid position as a freshman. Not only was she ready for varsity, but she was ready to excel. Megan's more defensive-minded, so she is more of a playmaker on the field. Whether it's taking free hits, shooting on corners or being the catalyst for our transitions, Megan is constantly setting up plays for teammates.”

Clement, who said Gordon plans to attend Gordon College in Wenham, Mass. to play Division III field hockey, added the teenager also is “investing back into our Camden Hills program as she volunteer coaches during our summer, fall, and winter programs.”
