Just a little research shows that it is definitely NOT rare to produce only 1 or 2 D1 girls' basketball players annually.
Here is a list of current Maine players on D1 rosters, and it is assuredly incomplete. Please make additions ...
- Maine: Sierra Tapley, Maddie McVicar, Parise Rossignol.
- Brown: Mary Butler
- Boston Univ: Nia Irving.
- Marist: Allie Clement.
- UNH: Sarah Clement, Ashley Story.
- Cornell: Jessica Willerson.
- Villanova: Emily Esposito, Brie Wager.
- Alisha Aube began her college career at Alcorn State, now at D2 Adelphi.
The list does not include many playing (and, yes, getting full scholarships) at several Division 2 schools.
Here's a list of current H.S. players in our state (again, please add if I've missed some) who have committed to D1 programs:
- Anna DeWolfe, Fordham
- Grace Martin, Harvard.
- Alex Hart, Bryant
- MacKenzie Holmes, Indiana
- Faith Blethen, George Washington
- Camille Clement ... undecided, but offered by Marist.
And, again, several have made commitments to D2 programs to, yes, receive full scholarships.
