Re: Top 10 Teams preseason: Class D - ongoing thread ..

I’ll get the ball rolling why not. I think it comes down to two teams or should at least. Southern Aroostook and Woodland. SA is very very battle tested and has the likes of Houlton twice on their schedule this season. This group has a ton of minutes together on the big stage and lost a heartbreaker last year in the NM final. NM D will be SA for the next 3 years in my opinion. I think Woodland moving down will keep them on their toes but the difference maker is the longer length and width of the CIC floor. Woodland doesn’t have the expierence as SA does in Bangor, but what will be the factor is if Woodland uses their size underneath to surpass them.
1) SA
2)Woodland

A winning formula: Deer Isle-Stonington girls turning heads in Class D North

...“On defense, it’s a mindset of just not letting them get to the basket,” Eaton said. “We have a lot of height and can guard well, and that can keep us out of those high-scoring games that are much closer.”

The team’s size in particular has made scoring in the post difficult for opponents. With Hutchinson, Orly Vaughn and Sadie Rice all 5-foot-10 or taller, few teams have been able to match the Mariners on the boards.

“To have multiple players who are nearly 6 feet tall, that’s an advantage not a lot of teams have,” coach Randy Shepard said. “You can make a player better at basketball, but you can’t make her taller.”
