Jammerfest tournament: July 14-16

Postby lovethegame » Fri Jul 07, 2017 11:02 am

When is the girl's summer tournament down at Camden? Is that coming right up or is it towards the end of July? I know that last year there was some pretty good competition there and this year I've heard of a team that's going to it and I couldn't help but think, man, with the group that they have and all the issues they're having with the coaching change over, that they're just going to get their butts handed to them and it's not really the right tournament for them.

Anybody got any info or schedule and teams or anything? Thanks

Bradbury, what are you talking about? What an odd comment.

Does anyone have any recaps from this event? Who won? Who looked good?

Hermon defeated Medomak 54-39 in the finals. Hermon solid and deep bench. Very impressed with the Depatsy girl from Medomak. VERY physical final game. Even too physical for summer time. Overall well run.

I saw most of the teams. Hard part in the summer is are they all there? Playing more sub's than usual?
PI will be solid. Wheaton is an excellent guard and they come right at you.
Bapst with a new coach is going through changes. They have some excellent players and size. Becoming a cohesive unit will be key. Many experienced seniors.
Hermon players were all there. Basically can play 9 girls. Very balanced.
Medomak is good. Depatsy is an excellent player. Hard to match up with.
Gardiner appeared to be very solid. Again playing a lot of girls so actual rotation hard to know.

Hermon outlasts Medomak Valley 54-39 in championship game

...Championship Sunday — Quarterfinals: No. Medomak Valley beat No. 8 Gardiner 54-50, No. 4 Presque Isle beat No. 5 John Bapst 54-48, No. 2 Hermon beat No. 7 Oceanside 63-41 and No. 3 Camden Hills beat No. 6 Caribou 53-35. Semifinals: No. 1 Medomak Valley beat Presque Isle 54-53 and No. 2 Hermon beat No. 3 Camden Hills 80-36. Championship: No. 2 Hermon beat No. 1 Medomak 54-39.

The championship teams won pizza parties from Five Town Basketball.

Juan Alcala, Five Town Basketball president, said it took many volunteers to cover the 84 total hours needed to make the tournament successful.

"I say this every year, and I'll continue to say it, without volunteers, there would be no hoopfest," Alcala said. "Volunteers are what makes the ball bounce successfully for three days. Hoopfest is the major fundraiser for Five Town Basketball. With each passing year, the tournament runs smoother and smoother, even though each year I work up a sweat running around for three days making sure all I's are dotted and T's are crossed."
