Chris Woodside named John Bapst girls basketball coach


Bapst will bring in former Calais boys basketball coach Chris Woodside to serve as girls basketball coach next season. Woodside confirmed the news to ABC 7 and Fox 22 Tuesday evening, as he looks to bring the program into a new era following the departure of longtime head coach Mike Webb last month.

O’Donnell New AD at John Bapst, Names Woodside Girls Basketball Coach

John Bapst named, football coach and Assistant Athletic Director, Dan O’Connell their new Athletic Director earlier this week. He replaces now Hermon Athletic Administrator Rick Sinclair.

He’s named a new girls basketball coach already. Chris Woodside will be the Crusaders new head coach replacing Mike Webb who stepped down this spring.

Woodside coached the Calais boys to the 2015 state class C championship and walks into some high expectations with the Bapst girls team this winter.

Former Calais boys basketball coach takes girls’ job at John Bapst

...Woodside is a defense-first coach who hopes his team can generate offense from shutting down its opponents, the winning formula for many teams in always-deep Class B North.

“One thing I always tell our players is the five E’s: Energy, Effort, Enthusiasm, Execution and no Excuses,” Woodside said. “When you play that way, you’re controlling the controllables.”

Woodside is also eager for the new challenge of coaching a girls team for the first time.

“Last year my challenge was college coaching but now my message is [how I’m] going to relate to the girls,” he said.
